I have, both here and in my home area, used local shops owned and run by non-Scots.........and I do not have a clue as to their origins or their religion......though they were certainly brownish.....but with accents not overly different to my own.
Why would it be a problem for me...they were nice people......what do I, or what does anyone, need to know other than that?

It seems that
most Asian-run corner shops (despite the quasi-racist term "Paki Shop") are run by families of Indian or East-African Asian origin; of whom, of course, some are Muslim. The very fact that you could pick up a newspaper and a kit-kat in one every morning for months whithout ever seeing any evidence of either Hinduism or Islam is, as you say, significant in itself.
