Default Council Leader Calls for Drugs to be Legal

The Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council has called for the legalisation of drugs, but apparently 'as a mother' not as Council Leader. She's talking about doing it to remove the taboo that makes it exciting, and to allow it to be taxed, since they are already one the streets anyway.

Would this be a sensible move, or a disaster?! I can understand the point about starting a debate, and I can understand arguements for legalising (and taxing) some of the less harmful substances that are so widespread in society that eliminating them would be utterly impossible and a waste of resources.

However, in my opinion part of the point of legalising a substance like cannabis would be to release resources, and gain additional resources from its taxation, to concentrate hard on wiping out the really nasty and destructive stuff like heroin. I can see no positives in legalising that sort of substance.

I dont see any problems with legalizing drugs, people are not forced to use it and getting some extra tax money is always good.

It is also a good way to seperate the strong minds from the weak.If people want to destroy their lives with heroin or kill themselfs with drugs then they should be able to do so.

If they become a menace to society then we can put them into some sort of ''hospital'' or ''work camp'' to live their lives outside society and are forced to work to make a contribution to society. We are already doing that with homeless people and junkies.

The drugs are there, the junkies are there, the state just dont get any benefits of it like taxes.

No great problem with legalising weed......imo not any more destructive than smoking....in fact secondary smoking of spliffs is rather pleasant.

And a great deal less destructive than alcohol can be. It won't just bring in extra taxation.......it would also save the money wasted on Court Cases and keeping persistent offenders in jail.

In fact........if everybody was able to have a half a dozen plants if they wanted them...there would be little incentive for drug dealers to bother with it....and it would maybe even keep kids who start with marijuana being tempted onto anything more destructive.

Think legalising and taxing marijuana.........including the seeds for growing.... and using the extra cash brought in to fight the hard drug dealers is a sensible idea....so not a chance in Hades.

I think legalising drugs would be a good thing although it will never happen as there is too much profit being made trying to prohibit them.

Cannabis is well known to bring relief in certain painful physical conditions and IMHO should be legalised.
