I believe the US will be #1 soon. If not they will bomb the hell out of all those countries ahead of them.

very few Americans reach PhD level in those Universities you talk about. Most are Asian. Yes I know, I deal with them all the time.

read in IEEE Spectrum that Europe was a whole 6 months behind developing the transistor.

The Russians are pretty sharp at developing technology too. I do know, because I read the research papers, where you wouldnt know where to start.

May God help us, Blade, if you're the one defending us. LOL.

Old news Blade. The US has since left Iceland.

Sorry I misread your quote. I thought you said something about the US still being there.

So why aren't the best universities in Asia? Why is America still leading Asia in the sciences?

Source please.

6 months behind is 6 months too late.

No argument here. I've already said they are #2 in the world behind us...ahead of Europe, China and even Japan IMO.

You're some random guy on an anonymous forum. For all I know you're a 15 year old kid typing in your parent's basement. So save the credentials. I'm not impressed and I'm not going to take your word for anything.

I agree actually. We're the only thing that gives NATO teeth anyway.

I still don't understand why you are expecting me to be impressed by this. Oil is Norway's big thing and even in that industry, they are not at the top of the list. Do you know what BFD means? heh heh

Of course I do...whatever supports your position the best.

Your link measures oil reserves, not income, net worth, or profits. We were discussing corporations and their relative sizes, not oil reserves. I'm not sure what significance your link is supposed to have.

I didn't even see it begin, heh heh. You responded with a bunch of non sequiturs and obscure links.

Whomever said America is leading in sciences is far off base. America hasnt been strong in sciences for years.

"The European Union leads the U.S. in...the number of science and engineering graduates; public research and development (R&D) expenditures; and new capital raised" (American Education Review 2006).

"Europe surpassed the United States in the mid-1990s as the largest producer of scientific literature" (American Education Review, 2007).

Nevertheless, Congress cut funds to the National Science Foundation. The agency will issue 1,000 fewer research grants this year (NYT, Dec. 21, 2007).

Foreign applications to U.S. grad schools declined 28 percent last year. Foreign student enrollment on all levels fell for the first time in three decades, but increased greatly in Europe and China. Last year Chinese grad-school graduates in the U.S. dropped 56 percent, Indians 51 percent, South Koreans 28 percent (NYT, Dec. 21, 2007). We're not the place to be anymore.
