On the other side, it's gorgeous, it's clean, there's virtually no crime of any kind, the standard of living is high (they have next to no poor people), and the women are freakin' killer.

Everything considered I'd prefer the U.S., but if I were born in Iceland I would likely never move here.
Emphasis mine I've been there six times. I loved visiting, Blue Lagoon is very cool. But as a place to live, couldn't do it. Would get rock crazy and outside of Reykjavik there is nothing. Summer is in the 60's. It doesn't get as much snow as you would think (less than NYC), but is still plenty cold in the winter with little daylight. I believe alcoholism is high there. But high standard of living, which is easy to do when the population is 250,000 and educated.

Default Scotland

Scotland is quite a nice Country to live in. Not so remote as Iceland but just a pretty and if you have a good job life is sweet.

Now if the football team (soccer to you lot) could win something life would be prfect!

The weather is indeed an issue. And in any place with a small population you run out of things to do. Which explains the drinking, I guess! As I said, I'd prefer to live here, but I can also see why the people living there aren't exactly fighting to get out. Plus, as guy how could you do better? Iceland chicks versus fat American chicks? Forget it.

Yaaaaaaaaa - how many people will pack their bags and leave for Iceland now - even if they would take you as a citizen and you got a free move? Whadda you do there for fun - watch the glaciers float by? And exactly WHO would take the advice of the UN about anything??

Default Iceland vs. Alaska

I used to live in Alaska. Iceland doesn't sound so tough.

Got too much baggage here in the states, though. Think I'll stay with it.

Well the men sure don't want to leave. That's because the ratio is about 2/3 women and 1/3 men. And with the women being attractive and aggressive...what guy would want to leave???

the standard of living is high (they have next to no poor people),
How can that be? Who sweeps & mops their floors? Who picks up their garbage and empties the cans? Who makes their beds and leaves a mint on the pillows? Who cooks their food, cleans their grease traps, and scrubs their toilets? Who digs their ditches and does necessary repairs on their homes? Who picks their green house lettuce & tomaters? Who runs the counter at Macky D's and the local video store? Do you expect us to believe their rich people change their own light bulbs?

How can they possibly maintain such a high standard of living without illegal aliens & slave labor peasants to do the jobs elite Icelanders find demeaning and degrading? Do they ship in their frost backs or do they just keep them out of sight?

Don't tell me they actually pay their lower class peasants comparable wages that allows them to live in an area that requires a high cost of living standard without government assistance?

Don't these people know anything about economics?
