I can hardly believe the mother didn't know. One day she has a basement, the next day her daughter disappears. Nope. I don't believe it unless her IQ is less than 60. It was going on for 7 years before her daughter "ran away".

I don't get it. Doing something you know is wrong, like eating ice cream when you know you should be doing push-ups instead, that I can understand. But doing your best to ruin the life of the person you're supposed to protect, that just makes no sense. This was the guy's little girl, and he not only hurts her, he goes completely off into the Hannibal Lector deep end of the crazy pool on her.

I'm against the death penalty, but maybe only technically in this case. I mean, basically, I'm against killing humans -- but does guy really qualify? I don't know.

Seriously. I know this is something of a tangential question, but forgive me: What would Jesus do with this guy? Ask someone to hand him a rock?

I must admit, this problem crossed my mind also. One would imagine that noise would be a major problem with the daughter and several children 'living' in said basement, not to mention, the fact that several more of the children from said incestuous couplings must have apparently materialized within the home from nowhere at some point.

That said, one cannot really fairly judge anyone, on the information currently available to us, the public at large.

The psychology regarding the overall situation may in time, explain how such a seemingly unbelievable set of circumstances, were able to go undetected for so long and how those within the family remained incognizant.

That no-one noticed anything for 24 years?!

Shocked, angry, disgusted... I can't imagine the hell she and the children went through.
