OK folks...a couple of "What If" questions for ya!

What will happen to the EU, if they are forced to kick Italy out? (It almost happened last time Berisconi was in power)

Since this is the most socialist government since the days of Hitler, with the local media reporting police squads targeting romany gypsies, what if Italy becomes a dictatorship again? Would the EU allow it to happen? Would the UN?

Being American, living in Italy, I get the very strong impression that Italians care for nothing but themselves. Last time Berisconi was in he said "...pay whatever tax you want...", so the people paid nothing. Roads went into dis-repair, school funding fell to it's lowest level in 30 years, the health service got even worse. Can the average Italian not realise, taxes are required in a civilised society? Do they not understand, that's what pays for roads, schools, health care, border patrol, garbage collection (except in Napels, dumb-asses!) etc. Do they honestly not see? Or just not care!

i am more interested in what would happen to U.S. bases, etc. if Italy was kicked out of the EU and began engaging in human rights violations against the Gypsies.

They will never kick Italy out of the EU - I mean derrrrrr the treaty of Rome and all that !!!!

You can't have an EU based on the treaty of a City that isn't actually in the Union - that would be like moving the Greenwich Meridian to Paris !!!



Catz - the US bases in Italy would be safe - NATO isn't the EU.

Interesting thought that an Italy outside of the EU would be more inclined to Ethnic cleansing than one inside the EU.

Maybe that is why Serbia wants in - the intellectuals within the political class are trying to drag the Plebs up?

The problem is the current leader is mafia, cares nothing about his own country, and passes laws to keep corrupt officials out of jail and in office!!!

And he's managed to do this by telling the poeple "you don't have to pay tax". So when revenue falls, he over-taxes foreign business and asks the EU for money!!

The EU has had enough!

Regardng the US bases. Aside from the naval supply ports, Italy's military bases have been on the verge of closing for years! Take Aviano! The last, forward (to the middle-east) airstrip capable of U-2 operation, and the locals got it shut!

My question, and catzmeow kind of hit on it, is what would the EU do?

lunecat, your point is, pointless. How many treaties, wordewide, are still in place on agreements between governments that no longer exist? Answer, thousands!! The SALT treaties are a prime example. The USSR is no more, Russia doesn't have to follow SALT, but they are. Why? Because the priciple of the treaty is sound. Nothing to do with "where it was created/signed/ratified".

And by the way, moving the meridian would have zero effect on the world. Since 2000, all time is now UTC based off the atomic clock. "Local" time is solely for us humans to know when to start drinking!!!

Just as 3 Italians to stand in line in front of a door, and all three will try to go through the door AT THE SAME TIME!!

I've posted my original question in several forums, I keep getting the same answer. Seems everyone WANTS Italy out of the EU. It would be the only way to force the average Italian to see "the truth".

Here's one for ya! Why did Ferrari hire a German to drive their Formula 1 car? Because the average Italian has 3 road accidents a year, or drives 2 MPH!!! They may make fast things, but everyone has to be good at something!!
