Default Sweden passes FRA law (fascist *BLEEEP*

Sweden has recently passed a law. I will just provide this wiki link so you can read about it. Its due to go into effect in 2009.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FRA_law

The stream of profanity that comes to mind when I found out about this is beyond proper description.

People all around me keep saying this will never go into effect and people are actively fighting it BUT I feel more cynical about it all. I am hoping they are right but it seems to me this air of fascism and its tools are being introduced all over the US and Europe under the excuse of "war on terror".

Its more important than ever to push back.

fears he who fears most. just have to look at it as a neccesity till its needed, if you have people who want this law then there should be a trial perioud.

I dont see anyone but a few politicians who want it. They are seeing numerous demonstrations against it, politicians who voted for are inundated with messages voicing their opposition etc. The politicians who voted against were sent a ton of flowers at their office with thank you notes.

I would suggest they put this law to public referendum and see what the outcome is, that would tell if the public really wants it or not.

I dont think it is a neccesity either and I dont even think the reason for it is what they state..terrorism. I think its just a great excuse to place another tool of control upon a population.

The problem is this, its govts who should be more transparent and the people who should have better access to see everything they do and say (not personal lives just their govt work) and people should have their privacy protected and yet what we see is the opposite. Govts becoming more secretive while the publics privacy is continually more invaded. Thats the mechanism of a more fascist sort of society....not a free and democratic one.

well in that case tell the people to send flowers to the politicians in order to pass a law that with a third of a country's voice referendums should be allowed.

it will be as direct as it can get, sure there will be referendums every other week and some compromise will have to be made. but i find it hard sweeds will turn fascists.

i still think a trial period no longer than 2 years should apply, if as you say privacy will be abolished so can this court document.

regards

Its much easier to break something than it is to fix it.

It doesnt matter if anyone believes swedes can go fascist, its a very fascist law and one that a fascist govt would use...there is never a good reason to hand that kind of tool to a govt.

I dont see a reason to have a "trial" period of the violations upon the publics privacy by the govt.

I also dont understand the statement that "sure there will be referendums every week". We have had them regarding other issues that propose such drastic change before and that didnt lead to weekly referendums....why would this?

I do think a public referendum would be a great thing to do in this case since there has been such an obvious outcry by the public against it. We had one for the proposed currency change from Swedish kronor to the Euro...the govt was in favor of switching, the people werent and it was voted down. I think it would be exactly the same regarding this law but I would also guess that the margin voting it down would be even larger than what was found in the vote against the Euro.

i totally agree that those laws are useless to your great looking woman and all their fathers but politicians need to look busy, you know divert the attention on the necessary changes.

but the thing is i'd rather get my privacy busted from known sources than the chinese computer special unit of a million geeks battalion.at least i got someone to blame.

and for the flooding of referendums i meant that once you raise a referendum for all the provocative legislations, the voice of the people could be used more for progressive legislation too.

I am not worried about a flood of referendums and certainly wouldnt mind MORE of them since it would mean more voice for the public and currently, there isnt enough.

I certainly wouldnt mind more progressive legislations...we need more progress not less and I trust the progress the public wants over that of the sort the govt wants

I doubt this thing will even make it through the autumn.

The politicians are feeling the wrath of the people atm and they are not used to that. Even the newspapers are pushing hard with campaigns against it.

So i seriously doubt it will be a working law in 2009.

What i find more interesting though is why exactly this came to be at all?

It seems the big thing is to monitor russias internet traffic that tunnels through Sweden? With the recent "revelation" that the FRA authority "shares information" with other partners...things gets interesting.

Oh well, it'll be an interesting autumn.

Hej Jeha....you are saying what all the other swedes around here keep telling me but I am not quite as optimistic.

I am also concerned about the fact that they have been doing this already WITHOUT legal rights to do, its also pretty frightening. It tells us that we dont have the transparency here we thought.

I am, however happy to see people really coming out against this and getting so active. I think its probably another boost for the pirate party.

Hehe, as you said , they have been doing it for decades already...
All of a sudden they wanna go "legit" with it and have a law passed to support it, there is something very Swedish about that!

I just love the irony in that they might get shutdown because they were stupid enough to wanna legislate it lol.

Well we'll see soon.
