Some Brit shows I absolutely love.

Spooks - all of the episodes with all the different characters, consistently brilliant acting and scripts.

Life on Mars - who would think it could have worked? Superb.,

Ashes to Ashes - again a superb series (can't wait for the second series).

You're joking! I have great doubts that it will transfer. The beauty of Life on Mars was, among other things, the location in Manchester. I don't know why but somehow it just worked in that location. But I'll suspend judgement, to be fair, I hope they pull it off. The main thing is that they need to get away from locating it in New York or LA and look for somewhere else that has a bit of the regional city about it. Maybe Seattle?

Now you've got me intrigued

I'll give the last two a try. I did watch a few episodes of Wire In The Blood last night, it was pretty good. I had just assumed that so many great british and aussie actors come here to act, so there must be some great TV programs from their home countries.

I didn't realize it was more like refugees coming here because of the lack of good programming.

I wonder what an American Gene Hunt would sound like. To make the character suitable for prime-time TV, he would be so bland as to not be interesting.

My favourite Gene Hunt quote:

You great... soft... sissy... girlie... nancy... french... bender... Man-United supporting POOF!!

lol - Manchester City supporter of course - I remember the episode where football took center stage.

I don't think Hunt would transfer, I suspect he would be too much for American tv, they seem to prefer the more bland types. Probably the only actor who could pull it off would be Glenister himself.

Here we have ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, USA, CW, TBN, USA, PBS, HBO, SHO, and a dozen other networks all putting out at least one or more good shows.

You've got what... BBC and two channels replaying soccer matches?

What gives? do you guys just get our old stuff?
Father Ted was brilliant. Shameless is incomparable. American TV could never do it. There is great stuff on Brit TV you just aren't getting seeing it. I have to say Joe that once you look at the number of channels available in the U.S. and the amount of total crap on those channels the percentage isn't much better than what's available in the UK.

I am a Shameless fanatic. The series totally rocks.

You tell it. American commercial TV is a vast wasteland. I watch absolutely nothing on it other than college football and 24. I wouldn't know a local TV "personality" if I tripped over him or her in a ditch. I don't even know the call letters or the station channels for local TV. It's all garbage.
