Default IRA declaration

Well the forces of the IRA today announced for all its active service units to lay down arms and to rengage with International decommitioning authority.
Its good to see with all thats happening that sense is starting to creep into the mentality up there.
Sadly there are still splinter Republican groups, and the Loyalists are busy killing each other but maybe the process will get going again.

Anyone got any views on it?

Default I wonder...

if this move will lead to anything positive comming from the British and unionists/loyalists? All the talk so far has been about whether or not the PIRA will act on its words, yet there is still much silence, especially from the unionists and loyalists on continued loyalist violence and especially on attacks on Catholic communities in Antrim recently. Until the loyalists are put under the same pressure as the PIRA has been put under, and until the loyalists leaders call for their members to lay down their arms, I will only be comforted by the thought that there are still republicans out there who stand armed between me and the loyalists.

Default I am not an opptimist

I am not an optimist, and Ireland is a shambles, the UK loses either way, if they give it back or if they keep it, the Irish Republican army is not going to be reasonable and people will not trust them, this may be a sign of peace, or they may have just been rattled by the attacks on London and realise they cant afford to behave in the way they have otherwise they may get the same treatment as the supposed terrorists are getting.

Default Its

Hard to tell, but I doubt the London bombings really effected the IRA decision, in effect its strenghtened there hand as the British government want to demobilse the north and transfer its security and military forces to the mainland.
The peace process may be stumbling along but at least both sides are relatively quiet. No one really wants to restart the war beyond a few fanatics.
