I have never hit my wife. I've pulled the covers over her head when I had real bad gas and that is worse than being struck
I wonder if this 50% figure are confirmed cases or "reported"

The thought has never crossed my mind to physically harm my wife. I hope it it is not as high 50%.

I find this difficult to believe, except for the elderly where I understand it is not unusual for wives to hit their elderly sick husbands. In a strange twist my first wife slapped me, (not with enough force to hurt me) but I had to intervene on her behalf when her second husband was violent towards her. I subsequently had him 'put away'.
