Thread: 50%of husbands have hit their spouse at least once.

Do you believe this statement? I came across it when I was reading an article that was about myths and facts regarding domestic violence. Now before the men go getting all defensive, I am not a man hater and not of the belief ''once a hitter always a hitter'', BUT it is not hard to believe. My guess is that if a couple has been married 10 plus yrs, but got married really young, that the ''one time'', could have been when they were still young ''minded'' and or wet behind the ears.

Do you think 50% is an exxageration or right on the mark?

I think it's an exaggeration. Remember the BS about domestic violence shooting up on Super Bowl Sunday?

An exaggeration. I would bet, however, that more wives have hit their husbands than vice versa.

Probably no coincidence the divorce rate is about 50%.

Divorce rate is about 40% for first and second marriages. It's the third, fourth, fifth marriages that skew the stats.

It could be too low for all I know. It's possible, given all the variations in how the figure is reached.

A more relevant question is why, given you have a statement of a statistic, you're asking people to guess whether it's right rather than look in to how it was calculated in the first place?

After all, 76.8% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
