Israeli Startup Develops Innovative Cancer Treatment

Israeli biotechnology startup Target-In is developing a new technology that makes use of the body's own internal mechanisms to target and kill cancer and other diseased cells, the website Israel21c.org reported. In typical cancer treatments, doctors use external toxins such as radioactivity and chemotherapy to target harmful cells. Looking for an alternative, Israeli researchers realized that the body also has its own internal process— known as programmed cell death—of targeting and killing diseased cells. "The whole idea of modern medicine is to imitate the processes that happen naturally in the body," said Target-In President Dr. Shai Yarkoni. "In one bright moment we realized that the cell suicide mechanism is the toxic compound we were looking for," added Yarkoni. Israel is a leading innovator in fields such as medicine, defense and agricultural science.
