Yeah, what's with the Lakers? I thought they got that big guy from Orlando to round out the team of giants and an easy spot in the finals.
You never heard any "easy spot in the Finals" talk coming from me. The Lakers need a whole lot to go their way for them to get near the Finals & I just don't see it happening. It's obviously early in the season, but their play hasn't installed confidence going forward. I'm sticking with my prediction of a Miami/Memphis (or maybe even the Clippers) Final.
I was waiting for one of y'all to bring this up... I personally don't like it, but, I'll still rep the team... My personal preference was for a 3-way nickname trade resulting in the Utah Bobcats, and the rechristened New Orleans Jazz, and, the Charlotte Hornets...
I believe the name "Tropics," is available now...what with the folding of the ABA's Flint Tropics. Charlotte Tropics has a nice ring to it... Speaking of the ABA...the Carolina Cougars were an actual team. What about the Charlotte Cougars? Their mascot could be a 40-something, chain smoking, divorced mother of 3 who hangs out in bars looking for college aged men.
Not a bad idea. I'd like to see something similar in the NFL, with St. Louis going back to being called the Cardinals & Baltimore, the Colts.
Congrats to Kobe for being the 5th NBA player to reach 30,000 points. Kobe joins Kareem, Karl Malone, Michael & Wilt in this exclusive club. I get a kick out of Kobe discussions: "Kobe is as good as MJ" - Um, not he's not. As a longtime Laker fan, it pains me to say this, but Jordan is the best player I've ever seen & IMO, the best player in the history of the NBA. Sorry, but Kobe isn't even number 2, but he is in the top 10, IMO. "Kobe isn't as good as MJ(derisively spoken)" - No he's not. Kobe is not as good as arguably the greatest player or unarguably the greatest 2 guard in the history of the NBA. So, what is he(Kobe)? I'd say, without a doubt, that Kobe is the 2nd best shooting guard in the history of the game. Not bad, not bad at all. "Kobe is selfish & not a good teammate" - Many of the greats in sports are selfish. It's part of what makes them great. Some people seem to gloss over how MJ ran "his" team with an iron fist. I remember...it was his way or the highway. By many of his ex-teammates, MJ wasn't known as an ideal teammate. "Without Shaq & Gasol, Kobe wouldn't have won championships" - Certainly the dumbest of arguments. Great players need other really good, if not great, players to play with to be successful. This argument loses one credibility when used. "Kobe is a jerk" - Yep, at times he can be. But, he certainly joins a looong line of athletes that are jerks. As a Laker fan, I say "Oh, yea, well, he's our jerk...so there!" The one thing about Kobe that an honest critic can't deny: When you sit down to watch him play, there will be moments in the game where you'll just say "Wow, that was amazing! How did he do that!" You will always get your moneys worth watching Kobe play the game.
Congrats indeed... huge accomplishment by a great player... I, personally, wouldn't put him top 10, but, as you said, that is your opinion... Nothing to argue against here... But, therein lies the difference between Kobe & Jordan... Jordan made his teammates better with his gameplay, assertiveness, and command on the court... Typically, if Kobe has a high-scoring game, LA loses... *shrug* Usually, when I hear this argument, it's a counter to the "Well, Kobe's got 5 rings" comments, which insinuate that an NBA championship is a solo accomplishment, and, therefore, sets Kobe ahead of other greats who don't have as many rings... MJ was a dick, too... Still is, by most accounts... No denying that... Kobe has been very exciting to watch... For all the criticism I have for Kobe Bryant, none of them are personal criticisms, like many of the lesser "fans" of the game... He is an all-time great, and, should go down as such...
Yeah, they are doing rather well at the moment, but once the Celtics get their act together along with getting Bradley off the disabled list, then the Celtics will crush the Knicks in the playoffs. Btw, it wil be round three between the Giants and the Patriots for the super duper bowl, only this time with a different outcome.
See, that's the thing with Lin... He'll have an incredible game one night, then, you won't hear from again for a month... *shrug*
I don't think it's quite that, he did it frequently in NY, I think him and Harden are still jelling as a duo, and Lin has been way too passive.
Good win for my Lakers today, but then again, any win is a good win nowadays. We're .500 at the moment.
LA looks so much better with Nash. He's probably the best player on the team, even over Howard and Kobe, at 39 years old to boot.
Well, Eric Gordon came back strong Saturday night, with a 24-point, 7 assist showing... Hopefully, things turn around from here...
The Heat defeat the Lakers, 107-97. It's like Miami was toying with the Lakers. What was disgusting as a Laker fan was their lack of effort on the boards. Miami is dead last in the league i rebounding, but one wouldn't know it by watching this game.
