Your post is most apposite. It's all about Trump, and always has and will be as far as he is concerned; his record is evidence enough. Anyone believing this presidency is any more than his ultimate wet dream, and screw Americans, is delusional.
Didn't he go on vacation for this weekend again? Probably won't even watching the vote. He'll have his people write up a few tweets and then off to the links. This is a monumental failure of Trump's 'leadership.' And know what? I'm perfectly fine with Trump's inability to head his government sufficiently enough to get any of his keystone policies through.
I dunno about the caring part but you seem substantially correct that this seems to be a win/win for him. If nothing is done on healthcare this year, the healthcare news will be dominated by Obamacare death spiral and collapse. Trump can say the establishment is blocking him from fixing healthcare. In political terms at least, it sounds like a win.
I am surprised to see "ZERO chance" from you after the last election. But I agree with you about the Senate vote on this bill. Will be interesting to see if they can get it through the House.
The vote was canceled AGAIN!! The real failure here is Paul Ryan's leadership. The ObamaCare replacement bill was always Ryan's baby and he has shown yet again that he is nothing but a cat-herder as he has no control over the members of his own party. He is the weakest Speaker of the House in decades.
Your bias is showing. Trump is despised by the entire Republican/Democrat political class. If Trump really did not care about anything they would love him.
I agree, it's worth a shot to talk with Democrats. Doing nothing about the existing system would be an absolute disaster for Trump & the Republicans. The ensuing protests would make January 21 look tame by comparison. In hindsight, if this is the best the Republicans can do after 7 years of railing against the ACA, their supporters have to be disappointed.
To the surprise of no one, total and complete failure. Trump and the republicans have proven yet again they are incapable of anything but whining. This for sure makes Mr. winning a total loser.
If the Congressional Republicans cannot agree on a deal that would clearly be very good for the American people it is better to abandon it. I doubt that the US Congress will ever be able to devise a complex bill that will not ultimately hurt the people while enriching and empowering the corrupt political class.
I think your analysis is spot on. If Trump could come up with something short and very sweet for the people, like a very big vested HSA, moderates and the hard Left would be very tempted. And the pressure from the public would probably be politically irresistible. The only opposition would be the usual sputtering about the debt/deficit/budget - as if politicians ever really gave a damn about any of that.
IMO, the Freedom Caucus should focus on reducing the size and power of government by transferring power and capital from the government directly to the people - especially the workers. A series of short bills could do that. Neglect the donors for a few weeks and do something really good for the American people for a change. Do that and they might even listen to the deficit yakkety act for a while.
But this bill is CRAP. It does absolutely NOTHING that Trump campaigned on, yet he not only supports it, he threw the ultimatum out to vote for it. Any other president in history, this would be an albatross around their neck for the rest of their presidency when it fails. But since Trump supporters live in an alternate universe and do not hold him to the same standards, let alone ANY standard, for them he will come out of this unscathed. This bill does hurt the GOP tho. Even if it doesn't pass it hurts them as it shows where they really are in relation to the citizens of this country. This bill in a literal sense took money from the poor and gave it to the rich. Add to that the budget that Trump walked out that did the very same thing, and the american people very much saw that they really could give two poops about them. They were very transparent and didn't even try to hide that they were giving everything to the rich while taking services away from the poor. The right needs to be careful. You may not like the way that the left is protesting ( I don't), but they are definitely mobilized and active.
The left would not support a big vested HSA. Its a bait and switch because it requires you to save the money first. The problem with that is that the american people don't have that money in the first place. Thats been the problem all along, the cost, not the payment.
Not a chance, man! Obama was blamed for all the GOP obstructionism over the past eight years, President Tweet deserves the same treatment. He's a failed leader plain and simple. The only thing he's good at is telling people how great he is when he is mediocre at best. That and scapegoating (the two go hand-in-hand). But no one should be fooled: this is typical Trump: overpromise, underdeliver. The only reason he wasn't as much a failure in the private sector is because he was able to declare bankruptcy, and when that didn't work he got bailed out by Russian oligarchs. Worst U.S. president ever, playing out just like expected.
Lol, nice try. This is the Tweeter-in-Chief's failure. He promised he'd fix this mess just like he promised he'd stop Muslims from entering the country. Failure after failure this guy. You can't expect someone who's so bad at business to somehow be good at government.
One thing is for sure, he would have tried to take all the credit if it did. Trump apologists would have touted this as just more "winning" and "getting things done" from the dummy in chief. Therefore, he gets a nice share of the failure. Republicans hold the house, senate, and the white house. Still, those incompetent losers still can't legislate.
I can't believe that anybody who voted for him actually believed that he could repeal/replace Obamacare. The poor guy doesn't even understand how Washington works. He is an amateur. How could anybody had honestly taken him seriously on his Healthcare promises during the campaign? Trump never had a prayer of "fixing Obamacare".
