https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...o-far-van-hits-pedestrians-near-london-mosque This has now been confirmed as a terrorist attack. One man is dead and 8 injured taken to hospital. The attacker was apparently shouting 'I want to kill all Muslims'. The police have said is an attack on all Londoners and has praised the people who apprehended the attacker for their restraint. Only one man was in the van. He was apprehended by people at the scene and is now in police custody but it is not yet known whether he is a lone wolf or whether there were other far right extremists behind him. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...ed-after-van-hits-pedestrians-in-north-london
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-casualties-collides-pedestrians-live-updates So far there's only one casualty and multiple injuries, but it is possible that the death toll will rise. According to one eyewitness report: "When the guy came out from his van he wanted to escape, run away and he was saying 'I want to kill Muslims. 'I want to kill Muslims.' http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-40322960
What qualifies this as a terror attack? It sounds as if its a deranged anti-muslim who wanted to mimic ISIS sponsored terrorism. Cheers, Jason Bourne
Thoughts are with those killed or injured by another lunatic terrorist attack. Amazed he wasn't ripped apart by the crowd, I doubt I could of shown such restraint.
Looks like you were writing this while I was also putting in a thread on this. More information http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/terrorist-attack-at-finsburgh-park.507743/ I will ask the mods to merge the threads.
The attacker was filmed while he was put into the police van. The suspect reportedly shouted 'kill me, kill me' and blew kisses from the back of the police van. He could be a deranged man with a history of mental illness.
Got a link to a source wherein the police are associating this with terrorism? Thanks. Cheers, Jason Bourne
'This is being treated as a terrorist attack and counter terrorism are investigating.' Police speaking on BBC1
They have been speaking about the massive increase in attacks on Muslims and the need to have security round Mosques. They will be using the same criteria as they do with all other terrorist attacks - most of whom seem to be whackos.
The man who has died was someone who was already being helped by pedestrians and possibly had a heart attack. It is unclear whether he was killed by the van or by that. It is being confirmed that he appears to have mental health problems - so may be a simple lone wolf. It is being reported that he asked those who apprehended him to kill him - having first told them he wanted to kill all Muslims.
Looks like the Iman saved the van drivers life, how boring, no chance to have a go at Muslims. Bet this thread does not get much interest.
The man who reported that he was looking like he had mental problems said that that would be what people thought...and a lot of the lone wolf Muslim attacks are similar in that those who have done them have mental problems and you are right that is generally not what is weighted in reporting. They have though also been speaking about the extent of Islamophobia which seems to be almost acceptable as a way to think and the effect this will have on some people. Muslims are saying they are living in fear. The police believe this was a planned attack to get as many as possible as they left prayers. In that it is a terrorist attack.
Sadly that is the reality in that many believe all Muslims are ISIS. The police say this is an attack on all Londoners and awful in that it happened when London is dealing with Grenfell Tower - something which some people here seemed to think was almost acceptable as many of the people killed were Muslim. In any case it looks like this attack was not organised by the far right. In that it is similar to the attack on Joe Cox... and lets remember that one of the killers of Lee Rigby who it was known had mental problems has been moved to Broadmoor.
As an atheist, I cannot understand how anyone thinks that if there was a god he would want you to kill people, so I think all these attacks are carried out by people with mental health issues. Just my opinion of course.
Well some are supposed to be political - misusing religion to that end. The reality is that before they commit the crime the majority of the Muslims ones have known mental health issues - that makes no difference to some if it is a Muslim who does the attack but all the difference if it is an attack on a Muslim. The Home secretary has confirmed this is being treated as a terrorist incident and May to chair emergency meeting on it.
