I think I saw that somewhere and didn't read it. What does it mean? Are they saying that it was an attempt to keep them warm? I have heard it has thermal properties, However The Independent had an article suggesting it was to 'keep up appearances'. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...appearance-blaze-24-storey-west-a7789951.html Here is the residents blog https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2016/11/20/kctmo-playing-with-fire/
This is a bit of a surprise but not so much as first appears https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...be-given-68-flats-in-luxury-apartment-complex
UPDATE. As of today 34 blocks of flats have failed the fire tests on the cladding used in this flat. There has been absolutely no suggestions of terrorists living in the flats. Of course this does not mean that the assertion made by Silver Surfer has been proved wrong. We will have to wait for the results of the inquiry to see that, but I somewhat doubt that the families are being evacuated from flats and millions are being spent if the cladding was not top of the terrorist suspect list. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40391395
Update The PM has just informed parliament that the cladding used was not up to building regulations and requirements. Still no mention of terrorists or any store of highly inflammable materials. Over sixty tower blocks have now been tested and found to be cladded with combustible cladding, some schools and hospitals as well.
Ok, that sounds too much even for me. I can imagine people cutting expenses or making mistakes on few buildings.. But over sixsty apartment blocks and schools and clinics..? What these pieces of biomass were even doing when issued such claddings on buildings??
The problem is simple, that with the facades easily inflammable materials were used ... because of the heat insulation etc. Quite honestly ... I've seen something like this in Germany, where an old house with 3 floors afterwards such a thermal insulation. For me as a layman there was simply some kind of Styrofoam blocks mounted on the outer wall and then plastered! Even then I thought to myself, "woe when the house burns and these Styrofoam blocks went on fire." As far as I know and read, right this was the case here in London?
There is a criminal enquiry going on, so information is not available yet, as it comes up I will update the thread. Hopefully those responsible will face justice.
It has not been conclusively proven that the cladding was responsible, but at the moment it does look like the case.
Correction 120 tower blocks have now been fire tested and all have failed, pressure is being put on that rather than continue with fire tests, it is just assumed the flats are unsafe.
There are many of such scandals all around the world ... sometimes because profit is more important as everything else in criminal behavior, sometimes because necessary tests before accepting such new things were done by fools ... and other reason!
As has just been said on the Daily Politics "molly the dog could figure out you do not put combustible material on a tower block"!
Well, I am kinda getting concerned now. We had few years ago a renovation program with apartment buildings having, among other things, additional insulation added. Haven't heard of any major fires going on that would've got outer walls burning, but I still am worried now.
Let's say it so ... there are hardly inflammable styrofoam parts and actually they should at least be used ... but the term hardly inflammable does not mean fire resistant / fireproof of course. Only we all know that corruption and fraudulent actions are unfortunately not a rarity and so the question arises whether then really the prescribed materials were used or not .... especially when the costs are significantly different and one is by circumstances like Lack of controls, easily put the difference in your own pocket as a profit. I mean, now, not in any way negative directed against Russia, because such scams are there in every country, even in my country too!
Complement: Yesterday in the German city of Wuppertal an eleven-floor high house with 70 apartments got an eviction, because the façade insulation is nearly same as at the Grenfell Tower. The residents are only allowed to reside there again if the owner has renewed the façade. As told ... happens in al countries
I don't believe that it is only this odd one, but more are possible. The fire in London woke up here many authorities about the issue.
It is quite amazing that this happened particularly as the cladding in Grenfell was I think put up after the fire in Dubai which used similar material. But check this out https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...tape-group-eu-fire-safety-rules-grenfell-fire and Ministers in abrupt U-turn over fire safety in schools ...but if you have been doing the same that is even more weird. Well Britain anyway is going to be doing a massive change in it's cladding on its Tower blocks and in or out of the EU excellent safety standards are going to be expected. One of the questions being asked of course is whether this had anything to do with austerity which the intended changes to schools in the above link did. P.S. The survivors apparently still believe we do not yet have anything like an accurate number of deaths as at 79. On the other hand it has been said we may never know.
I don't understand. Don't they know who was living in the building, and if they are missing? How can they not know if people are dead or not?
There are not only people who live in here, sometimes guests stay late or even spend night in there, there are lovers, not every remains can be identified with ease. It can take up to half of year to identify remains of person, at least. Wish I didn't knew that.
No, they do not know the exact number of people who were in the building at the time. They have been going by the process of only reporting numbers which they are certain of. The expected number is that there were between 400 and 600 but someone at the council said there could have been thousands! The people of the Tower say many people are missing, and ask where they are. The media have suggested there may also have possibly been some illegal people in it who people would not have wanted to report and lastly as it was an inferno it may not be possible to identify all the bodies or apparently even to add them up. Below the mirror article. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/what-death-toll-grenfell-fire-10641711?service=responsive
Right. I'm just saying, there should be missing persons. How can you lose track of 600 people, and not put 2 and 2 together?
Oh, it was because he had habit of dashing out to friends in other cities without warning anybody, for a week or even a month. How could his parents know he was in morgue just two blocks away. It was a sad story. Not normal.
Yes that of course is what people are asking. They are suggesting for instance checking out schools and counting the missing children. That still seems to be their position but the police will not say unless they know and of the 79 there were some are reported missing. Mind you a couple of days before that they said 58 including the missing.
