Yet everyone remarks about her.

Pure socialism is as much of an unrealistic utopia as pure free market capitalism. Yet, there is no socialist in US congress, whereas we have several libertarian Randian free marketers, who like to impose their utopia on us, including Ayn Rand disciple Paul Ryan and Rand Paul.

So, why do we hear constant warning against the non-existing socialist threat, while the other side's extremists not only get a free pass, but also have powerful positions in government?

 

I saw the film version of The Fountainhead, the one with Gary Cooper, Patricia Neil and Raymond Massey in it. I understand that folks working on the film thought the whole thing was a monumental joke, as everything about it was stilted and pedantic. Neil and Cooper lent a raw sexual energy to it, but then they were having a torrid affair at the time.

I tried to slog through Atlas Shrugged, all thousand pages of it. It was monumentally boring, pedantic, and preachy. It's characters were preposterous, one deminsional and very very long winded. I read better science fiction in high school.

It struck me as very odd that any writer writing in the dawn of the jet age and television, would be writing about a future filled with steel mills and railroads.

I think that she was heavily influnced by the proxy war that Robert Young fought over control of the New York Central Railroad, as much as any higher meaning.

As for her core points.......if Hemingway had written Atlas Shrugged, it would have been one page long.

Sowell was a major league crackpot. Much of what he wrote was downright false, and his political views were both extreme and very shallow.

If you enjoy her imaginary confections, that indicates your tastes in fiction. It is prudent to bear in mind that she dealt in fantasy. No nation on earth has ever approximated her illusory land of make believe, nor ever will. As reformed randwank, George Saunders astutely noted, "Objectivism is more young adult fantasy than political philosophy."

The Laissez faire capitalism pandering to personal avarice that bloats the vast space between her books' covers and constricts the confines between some pubescent ears does not pertain to the real world, one that is, however insufficiently, informed by man's humanity to man, found in the moral precepts of every major religion and ethos.

In the real world, "Objectivism" is subjected to the better angels of our nature.

It's a shame that "The Fountainhead", the flick, was so poorly cast and conspicuously deficient in whoopee cushions.

The stick-figure stiffs might have been animated somewhat by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, and a score by Cole Porter.

Social security and Medicare are s government product. Was she given the choice not to buy that product? No. So what sense is it to not take something you were forced to buy?

It's fortunate that the ailing Ms R dwelt in a land where she could depend upon the kindness of strangers when she found herself in need.

I used to read Sowell's columns for laughs. They were often outright preposterous.

As I said, Rand has a minor cult following, enough to keep her in print. She appeals to the sort of person who hasn't read a book since high school and thinks her long winded diatribes are intellectual and deep.

But then, you can still get the any number of these sorts of cult favorites which remain in print for long periods of time.

 

So you are simply repeating your ad hom even though the facts demonstrably prove you massively wrong and ignorant at least about here popularity.

Every time you read Sowell you get frustrated because he is correct you cannot present any argument of any kind that he is wrong as you claimed

 

Ayn Rand was a pervert who fooled around with young men while legally married. This drove her Catholic husband to drinking (he could not divorce her due to his religion). The poor man died in grief while she was carousing and she later collected social security benefits under her married name. Biggest hypocrite, antichrist, liar, and pervert anywhere.No wonder why right wingers love her so much.
