More of confidence than a gift. lol You show no fear and that makes them comfortable around you. I have been bitten by a dog 4 times , years ago when I delivered mail. Most dogs feel you're up to no good when you approached their door, going back to that protection thing. I hired a guy one time to do the night shift at my kennel and when I walked in with him one morning the dogs were shy around him after a week, they shouldn't have been. I guessed correctly when I fired him when a neighboring kennel worker said he heard one of the dogs yelping and not in a good way. He had been mistreating a dog he didn't like.

 

So what. They still attack. It is in their nature. So do people.

 

If you owned a German Shorthair you would know what a smart dog is, Shorthairs do not need to be trained. I told my 8 week old pup to sit as I pushed his rear down and gave him the piece of meat, then I said sit and he sat, 1 time instruction then the dog learned for life. This is not even training, as no trainer or formal training is needed. Pit bulls are stupid, unless you want the neighbors kid killed...........

 

My shorthairs are never chained or leashed, when you keep a dog chained all the time they actually become either vicious or they run away and you never see them again when they get free. Chained dogs ought to be illegal, which means that pit shits must also be illegal because they can never be free

 

You'd be surprised how many shorthairs flunk bird/gun training and are returned to life on the couch. A typical 4 year old that knows what sit means can train any dog to sit. edited to include, my neighbor has had 2 shorthairs that are dead now because he couldn't keep the dogs on his property, hit by cars.

Absolutely! Although they're a popular breed all across the U.S. I'd never go so far to link a political preference to them!

 

Field dogs are highly intelligent Shorthairs with little to no hunting ability. My newest pup took down a deer before he had his adult teeth, he has returned me groundhogs and rabbits. No training needed, field dogs are not necessarily good hunters on this I agree with you, but real hunting ability is just not ever trained, it is inborn, retained from it's wolf ancestors. So again Shorthairs will need to be trained to run thru hoops, but not to hunt. Again field trials are games made by people, not hunting dogs

 

I'm sure that is a vast comfort to the parents of a child killed by a pit bull whose owners did NOT know, or even try, to train him. I'm quite sure that the vast majority of Pit Bull owners are nice people but the fact remains that Pit Bulls are the type of dog who requires a great deal of the training you would so ably provide but many people don't.

I cannot, for the life of me, see how people can argue this. I have seen Tiger cubs that would break your heart and full grown lions that play with people like overgrown kittens, does that mean we should allow people to have them in city apartments? or even allow them to roam a large farm without special arrangements? (I am aware that there are possibly more of these animals on special farms in North Am than in the wild. If you want to put PB's in that kind of environment, great, I think they would certainly be happier there)

 

A pit bull can not be trained not to attack, because of epigenics. 9.9 out of 10 of you do not know what epigenics is

 

And I suppose you'll try and convince us that the animal can distinguish a hug, handshake or your child running and playing with a neighbors child as non aggressive play or affection, right?

9.9 out of 10 Pit bulls never attack anyone, epigenics or not. Again, I'm sure the little 4 old girl in my city who had her scalp torn off, required 127 stitches and is still undergoing reconstructive surgeries 5 years on takes vast comfort in that fact. Pit Bulls are vastly dangerous, to their owners, to themselves and to the general public. They can be loving pets and wonderful guard animals who intimidate malefactors with their very presence, So can a ****** elephant, should I be allowed to keep it in my one bath?

And I'll bite, why don't you save us all the googling and tell us about epigenics?

Somebody has to, it certainly won't be people like you who think you have a right to victimize everybody else. You're right, there are no bad dogs Indeed, there are no bad animals, Animals live in perfect innocence, they are unable to be evil. It is the people who keep them who are at fault entirely.

Maybe we should go with my other solution, If somebody's dog hurts someone he should be smeared with beef drippings and put in a pit with a whole bunch of pit bulls who haven't been fed for about a week. This should be put on television and compulsory viewing for all PB owners

I think this rhetoric is pretty obvious at this point, national data, studies and personal experience hasn't even soften your views, so clearly you prefer the minority in this case and damn all the contradicting information

This is not true, because the vast majority of pit bull attacks were from perfectly decent and normal dog owners who never would even think of attending a dogfight. The dogfight is however a dominant gene that is genetically coded in all pit bulls, this can not be undone by a good dog owner. There is a case in the UK where a pit killed a grandmothers grandchild while she put her garbage to the curb, she never attended a dogfight and the dog was purchased from a reputable breeder.................. So you are wrong, bad pit bulls are not owned by bad people even though some pit bull owners need to be hung until dead

 

99.9 percent of pit owners never attended a dogfight, however the dogfight is in the pits genes and this is no owners fault, though intelligent people do not buy pitts
