It may not personally hurt me more than anyone else in America but money given to africa to battle climate change is money that is not spent on projects in America such as roads and bridges

That's just weather. A hotter than usual summer, however, is climate.

 

Its true. The mainstream media is quick to point out short stretches of unusually warm weather but will often bury those of equal but opposite magnitude. For example, did you know that globally we have cooled considerably over the immediately 24 month period. It's an expected response after a potent El Nino event, but have you heard about it in the news? I can pretty much guarantee you would have heard about it had the opposite happened though.

The question is where did you hear this news about cooling over a 24 month period? Especially since 2017 was recorded as one of the hottest years on record.

 

2016 was the warmest year on record. 2017 was below that. On a monthly basis February 2016 was the warmest ever. February 2018 is about 0.6C cooler than that. The datasets I'm looking at are GISS, NOAAGlobalTemp, CFSR, ERA, RSS, UAH, plus others.

However, keep in mind that these are monthly values over a very short amount of time. In other words, there's a lot of noise here. I should also point out that the warming leading up to February 2016 from 2014 was, coincidentally, of equal magnitude to the cool down from 2016 to 2018. And yet in either case it has little to do with the overall secular trend except in so far as that all time periods are given equal weight when constructing moving average, linear regression, other trend lines. The fact remains that the warming since 1960 is about 0.15C/decade, since 1980 is about 0.18C/decade and since 2000 is about 0.20C/decade using a 5yr lowess smoothing trend. So not only does the Earth continue to warm, but the warming rate has accelerated.
