The problem is with the systematic policy that was not even setup properly causing children to be caged like animals. So not only inhuman but an incompetent inhuman policy.

That this sometimes happened on occasion for various reasons was never an issue not under obama not under trump.

those families arrive legally through the airport. when they are picked up for their actual law infraction, they will be separated.

1. I am saying not all laws ought to be followed to the letter. There is no reason for blind adherence to this.
2. Following this law to the letter proliferates the welfare state by keeping illegal immigrant kids in the us foster system or cared for under HHS housing for an unreasonable amount of time.
3. The charge is a MISDEMEANOR. I do not know of any other misdemeanor charges that result in a 22 day detention of a child.

Some things we can sure do but it's fair to question if we ought to do them. Given the specific context, the US foster system is already drowning due to the heroin epidemic - there is really no reason for this portion of the law, the loophole, or the detention of children separated, to be enforced. We are taking resources from americans and giving them to illegals.

Detain them all for less than 24 hours and repatriate them immediately. It's humane and it enforces the law to the manner in which it was intended.

 

There's a difference between housing during an emergency spike and a permanent condition. With this new Trump policy they expect 20,000 children will need to housed in a few months.
