    Stupid to expand period unless you can trust the market and your process is as good as your competition.
    Trump just gave you a free pass to raise your prices. Perfectly safe to take that 25% increase in profit and go on vacation.

    I thought you were referring to cost of putting people to work in old mills.
    Yes, I will pay a tiny amount more for what steel I use. I have went on record here saying I'd gladly pay twice what I pay for textiles if we would return clothing manufacture to the US. I have no problem with this at all and it goes for any product or industry we may see fit to protect against the likes of China and the EU. It feels wholesome actually to support American workers and the lower middle class.

    Protectionism always makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
    But then you wake up one day and find out the world has passed you by.
    Better to work harder to compete.

    From Trump's rhetoric I don't think he knows what a tariff is. I used to buy 45 records in NYC and pay the US taxes on them .. and smuggle them into Saudi Arabia at the bottom of a dirty diaper bag so I didn't have to pay additional for a customs stamp.. Really .. I don't think Trump has a clue what this is about.

    A market can never be trusted, for no one knows the future. I expanded my small manufacturing business only when increased demand enticed me to do that. Tax breaks for myself would have never done it, as some on the right think. I needed demand for more than I could produce, and the demand had to be enough to warrant spending money.

    Now I don't know how a big corporation would operate, but I know how my business operated. For I was running it. Making decisions. I could have never raised my prices 25 percent, for one of my competitors, here, would have eaten my lunch if I had done that. But I was not making steel either, nor was I competing with people who could dump steel into my market.

    That's cool. But the largest consumer of goods (US) wont buy certain stuff from them, so in the end they make less money, which is ment to offset our trade deficit.

    What Trump knows is that his supporters have seen their wages stagnate for a generation (the globalization generation) and are tired of it. This is just the beginning of a long push back against globalization, Trump did not create populism and it will only grow stronger as long as wage stagnation and income disparity continue.
