My Monday is already over. It happened yesterday. Now I am home after another graveyard shift which started Sunday night.

For breakfast/supper -- home made chicken noodle vegie soup.

    Wine for dessert.

    Foods to avoid
    • legumes, such as beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts
    • squash
    • nightshade vegetables, such as eggplant, peppers, potatoes, and tomatoes
    • fruit, although in-season fruit is allowed in moderation
    • grains
If grains are consumed, the plan recommends products made from white flour instead of wheat.

Dr. Gundry recommends completely avoiding the following foods:
    • corn
    • meat from corn-fed animals
    • A1 milk
Interestingly, by going keto most of this is already avoided.

I find this particularly interesting because there is other evidence that foods like wheat create inflammation, and may ultimately be responsible for the build up of plaque in the vascular system, which leads to cardio-vascular diseases.

I notice literature out there slamming Atkins and Keto, claiming they drive you to eat mostly animal products. Total BS!!! You eat a ton of vegetables and try to get most fats from plants. Yes, you do eat meat and eggs. But the notion that you sit around eating meat and fat all day is ludicrous. Why do the professionals who slam this ignore the facts?

When I first went keto, they kept pushing dehydration as a huge problem. Yeah, no kidding, Atkins tells you that and offers a revolutionary approach to solving this problem - drink lots of water.

    Me too.
My favorite feel good food is tuna raw right out of the water. Albacore or ahi. Hook it, reel it, gaff it, fillet it, eat it. All in less than 5 minutes.

    Donuts are evil.

Funny, I was trying to remember the last time I had a donut. I stopped eating those while trying to lose weight, before I went keto. I don't think I've had a donut in well over 20 years. I can't remember eating one since I was in college!

My favorite in college was maple bars. Mmmmmmm!

Granted... people who have specific health problems need restrictive diets. But for the rest of us... everything in moderation is a better plan. :knifefork:

Processed sugar is always bad. It all comes down to what you define to be "moderation".

The biggest culprit is simply too many calories. You can buy a burger, shake, and fries, that have more calories than a person should eat in an entire day. 2500 calories for lunch is insane!

Anything that spikes your blood sugar makes you fat. That is what insulin does to control blood sugar spikes - converts sugar to fat.

Looking good and doing good by one are 2 entirely different things.
It's not like deciding to play bridge with a standard deck of Bicycle
cards instead a post WWII 5o's deck of half-nudie cards.
Or insisting Soul Food is actually good for one's soul.

soul food is good for the soul because it brings a soul closer to its maker, sooner.

Sugar is definitely bad for humans. The more one takes in the less
healthy they will become. With the possible exception of chocolate.
I don't even keep those sugar packets one gets at McD's at home.
No sugar. No Salt either.Yes,I do use Lawry's Seasoned salt but just
a touch. The healthiest people you will ever meet do not consume
much sugar or salt. The ones who look like their knocking at death's
door, probably consume nothing that doesn't reek of salt or sugar
    or being processed.

I started a thread about sugar in the opinions section. The health care costs in the US associated with sugar are over $1 trillion dollars - about 1/3 of all health care costs. So I did the math. If we were to tax sugar to help pay for health care, based on its estimated costs, IIRC it would require a tax of about $20 a pound.

That is what sugar consumption ACTUALLY costs - about $20 a pound.

Funny thing about sugar. One guy who works at a sugar processing plant said that they have big piles of sugar, but the ants won't go near them.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that the average American consumes between 150 to 170 pounds of refined sugars in one year!

At $20 a pound, that averages about $3200 a year in sugar costs per person.

And that goes full circle on the math: $3200 times 285 million people is about $1 trillion.

Most tomato lectins are believed to be in the skin and seeds.

IMO it is not a good idea to force oneself to eat disagreeable food. You could have an intolerance not shared with most others.

My mom ate good southern cooking all her life and was healthy up until a month before she passed away at 90. My stepdad eats nothing but beans, potatoes, meat, bread & sweets and hes 92 and healthy (except for golf related skin issues). Guess it all depends on (1) good genes and (2) how long one wants to live. Personally, I think 90 is a good goal. Any longer and your quality of life isnt usually very good. :oldman:

No one is suggesting eliminating all donuts or all sugar
    stuff.I had a problem years ago { early 2000's } with
heartburn and it was due to eating tomatoes that were
GMO { when they first came out }.

Tomatoes have an high acid content. But they're also loaded with antioxidants. IMO, anything but fresh off the vine is pretty tasteless.

When you grow your own tomatoes and plant heirloom seeds you get a good tomato. But they do have a lot of acid.

Not to be confused or related to a Deadly sin.
There are Se^en Deadly Sins Including Wrath as in
the Movie - SeVen - { 1995 } where a Pound of Flesh is actually
    extracted from one victim.

It's the skin on tomatoes that contain the bad ingredient :
Lectins or Macromolecule of carbohydrate-binding proteins.
