    Hmmm, I'll look into that. The charts may already take that into account.

    I don't even need to check my heart rate anymore. I can tell you what it is by my breathing. The elliptical is soooooo cool that way. It allows you to control things precisely. This allows you to really understand what your body is doing. In principle you can do the same thing running. But I was always distracted by things like cars, curbs, or the terrain, and could never completely focus on my breathing. But this is safe. I do it with my eyes closed most of the time so I can focus.

    Funny, I don't like the idea of backing off a bit. I hope I don't find a good reason to do that! :D

    I was thinking of ways to get motivated to run.
    Then I thought, tie these two pork chops to my waist and walk by the pack of neighborhood dogs. They chase me, Im motivated to run. Then I thought, but what if they catch me? What will I make for dinner? So now Im rethinking it.

    Who wants a freeze pop?

    You may want to check out The One Minute Workout, Gibala and Shulgan. Penguin 2017.

    The Title is misleading. The book starts with a description of the kind of HIIT workouts utilized by young elite athletes. They are probably the most brutal demanding workouts imaginable.
    It gets interesting when Gibala describes research to find out how little work needs to be done to achieve nearly the same results.
    The studies of older patients with severe heart damage using HIIT are astonishing. worth a read.

    Hah, I was just about to post saying I do HIIT. But by the time the low-load interval ends, my muscles are just oxygenated again, so my breathing barely tapers off before its time to hammer it again.

    ...plus you want to breath hard about ten seconds before the load hits again. So you never get a break.

    Been doing wind sprints in the pool and high reps with medium weight, doing fast lifts, to my max, followed by another set about a minute or two later. Turns out this helps boost testosterone levels as much as heavy lifting - which kept injuring my shoulder.

    There's all kids of theories about exercise and there all different.
    Jim Fix { running } decided to go on a diet in his 30's and give up
    the standard 2 martini lunch and took up jogging.He got into marathons
    and was a Jogging fitness guru.He died of a Heart attack in his 40's.
    Plus making sure to exercise and giving yer heart a pumping like
    jogging,weight lifting,hiking or anything that raises yer pulse is
    good for the heart.Because a heart that is never pressed will
    become weak and unable to withstand something like Heart Attack.
    Not true.My Mom died last summer and never once exercised.Couldn't
    even swim and we had a summer home right on the beach.She sat
    on the beach and entertained her friends /guests.Also seldom walked.
    Basically No exercise at all.Save light housework.She was also a very
    light sleeper.But she lived to be 94.Died in her sleep.
    Weekend warriors or weekend joggers are prone to injury,sometimes
    serious for jumping in and not properly warming up.I Lettered in
    Track in high school my junior and senior year { shot put and discus }
    I also wrestled in winter.I was a weight lifter all throughout high school and
    my first year at college.I took up jogging in my mid-20's.
    Started off just a mile at a time.Then a mile and a half.Until I read
    Jim Fix's book { running } I was doing practically everything wrong.
    Every week I see someone jogging and I can tell instantly if they
    are a novice or know how to jog.It's almost a science to know how to
    properly jog.
    I will explain in my next post.

    Proper Jogging.
    1.} Do not jog in tennis shoes { they will give shin splints }
    2.} Buy a pair of good jogging shoes.
    3.} do not overdress when jogging.No Sweatpants in warm weather.
    4.}wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes { I prefer cotton }
    5.} Do Not jog after a meal { especially a big meal }
    5.} If anything drink something like coke that has the fizz removed.
    6.} Gatorade has fructose and is not a good choice.That kind of
    sugar breaks down and may cause cramping.
    7.} always start out slow when jogging.Maybe even some light stretching
    beforehand.But never start out fast.The body has to warm up and the
    arteries and blood need to flow slow and even.
    8.} Try to avoid jogging downhill.It tends to create side stitch.
    9.} Pick a jogging route you know and like and check the distance.
    10.} Jog when you know the time is best.Like before going to work
    in the morning,or after work.Never after a meal.
    11.} Stick to a jogging regime even if you are tired.Once you get out and
    warm up you are getting oxygen and you will feel less tired.
    12.} Jogging with a friend tends to make the jog go better.But I was
    a lone runner.I occasionally came up behind another jogger as we
    jogged and talked.You can jog all year long but not in certain conditions
    like ice on the road or too much snow or in a downpour.Even though
    a summer downpour in the middle of a run can seem like heaven.
    13.} if anything { if you must } do light stretching or calisthenics after
    your run.And make sure to drink fluids { especially water }. Beer is ok.
    Do Not Eat right after a jog but wait maybe 30 minutes or longer.
    I logged 2 years of over One Thousand miles each year when I was
    good at jogging.Jogging requires more than buying the right clothes,
    jogging shoes or route.It's a state of mind and discipline.Like weight lifting.
    Only those 2 activity are worlds apart.One is Aerobic and one is Anareobic.
    Know what each one entails.The big reward comes when you least
    expect it.The unbelievable Runner's High.When from out of nowhere during
    your run you actually feel weightless and so full of vim and vigor you may
    feel like running for hours.I've had a few to maybe a dozen such runners
    high in my 8 or so years of jogging.It's called Endorpins.A naturally occurring
    reaction your body undergoes sometimes and acts like a strong
    painkiller { morphine }.It reduces pain,gives a feeling of euphoria and
    distorts time.

    Well as long as you're twistin' my arm.
    How about a large pepperoni with extra cheese?
    Wait, maybe a grinder too?

    Forget the salad. That's just too much to carry.

    I'm rewatching "Sicario" on DVD. This line hit me as incredibly funny:

    Kate Macer: What's our objective?
    Matt Graver: [smiles] To dramatically overreact.

    I done forgit one of the The most Important Jogging rules.
    Heel to toe.When jogging,land on yer heels and never on yer
    tippy toes.Role the foot forward from heel to toe.try not to land on the
    middle of yer foot also.Those who jog on their tippy toes usually
    overdress and act like Rocky { Sylvestor Stallone } when jogging.
    Sometimes seen wearing tennis shoes { or what were basketball
    shoes for many years like Converse All Stars } and rotating their
    bodies like Rocky as if shadow boxing.Big No No.yet many beginners
    think that's the way to jog.Like in the Movie - Rocky -.
    Now with that ... " I'm gonna Lam on outta y'har ! "

    no landing on toes makes the calf muscle stronger, that is how the tiny italian defeated the huge russian.

    I think it was WC Fields who said he often gets the urge to exercise, so he lies down until the feeling goes away.

    You are confusing strippers with sugar babies. :D So you are two degrees of separation removed.

    But I did six weeks of hot-babe boot camp in a strip joint. Had lots of grinders! :D It was funny once I got to know the women there. One would sit on my lap and sort of pretend to do her routine, but mostly talked and talked and talked.

    The most beautiful woman there ended up being my barber for the next two years. LOL!

    PS. I never realized that oxytocin can be incapacitating - literally intoxicating - but turns out it can. There were a couple of times that I had to wait to drive. I might as well have been drunk.

    BTW ... Me quote " Lam on outta y'har " is probably never gonna be
    heard again given the movie it came from.Ironically a Great Movie.
    Very powerful with a splendid cast.
    - Leslie Howard { great actor who died young } Shot down in WW II.
    - Humphrey Bogart { a starter role }
    - Bette Davis { another starter role }
    - Dick Doran { popular singer and matinee idol }
    - Porter Hall { very familiar face }
    - Joe Sawyer { extremely familiar and recognized Hollywood mug }
    - Charley Grapewin { another very used Hollywood mug }
    And seldom used but unique to this Movie ... :
    - Slim Thompson as the black man whose On the Lam along with
    Bogie in ...

    - The Petrified Forest - { 1936 }
    They don't and haven't made em like that in ages.
    A truly watchable and worth remembering movie.
    Regardless ... you'll never see a copy or DVD.
