I want more power to the states and less power to the feds.

I feel the Electoral College at least still helps the states retain some of their power. The more centarlized we become, the wrse off we will be.

Roman Empire is a perfect example.

What scares me is where we are right now, is it close to the End Republic times? Are the Clintons the Grachii of today?

Is the new Marius comming? Will the new Sulla come after?

The more we centralize the government, the worse off we will be IMO

    It is so insanely frustrating

"I know better than you, you should do what I say!"

It just screams of Toxic Femininity, thinking a person knows better what to do with your life and demanding you do it, or be branded a bad person.

    It's getting old

Oh it's far better than that -- he believes he should be able to decide who can and cannot vote, based on his assessment of their intelligence.

I suspect that if Republicans had won the popular vote twice in the last twenty years but lost the election due to the electoral college, there would be partisans on their side arguing the same points that Democrats are arguing now. What do you think?

That's true, there will always be more people looking for free handouts than wanting what is best for the country.

That might be true. Thank God our forefathers were smarter than we are. Also smarter than some we have on the USSC. Than God for Trump. Hopefully he can replace her next.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg says Electoral College needs to be ...
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ruth-bader-ginsburg-says-electoral...
But she did say she would like to change the Electoral College, a comment that drew applause from the packed, 1,200-seat Stanford Memorial Church. She did not elaborate.

If Sackeshi knew anything about those who feed Sackeshi, that statement wouldn’t have been made. It’s just more demonstration of Sackeshi’s ignorance.

I wouldn't. I appreciate the nuances of why the Electoral College is important.

I think that it was probably a great idea back when it was written but now it just makes elections easy to rig and prevents everyone’s vote from counting equally in an important national election. A few crooked bought off county officials in key districts can change the results of a national or state election. And considering the huge importance of what is often at stake, they can be bought off dirt cheap. In the 250 years since the birth of our nation sleazy politicians from both sides of the aisle have become fully aware of these gaping loopholes. In my lifetime at least two and maybe more elections have been stolen by corrupt means. Kennedy over Nixon in Texas and Illinois in 1960, Bush vs Gore in Florida in 2000 and possibly Bush vs Kerry in Ohio in 2004. Now look what’s going on in Florida again. I am in favor of overhauling our whole election system on both the State and National levels. It is outdated and ripe for corruption and fraud which is being exploited by both scummy parties in every election.

I think they would be right. I support a complete overhaul of our national and state election process to close all of the loopholes which are being exploited by both sleazy parties.

Also remember that the electoral college was part of the "Great Compromise" which smaller states demanded in order to ratify the Constitution.

Removing the electoral college is really not an option and never will be.

You can't simply amend away one of the reasons a state ratified the constitution. Its not like changing prohibition or something, this goes to the core being of a state agreeing with our foundation.

I love watching leftists reveal that they know nothing about the founding, the Constitution, or the reason these things were built into our government.

Anything else you'd like to get rid of? Voting maybe?

We could let Hollywood pick our leaders?

You do relies that the election of 1840 was the first time every state had a popular vote. So the electoral college can allow a state to completely bypass the citizens and elect anyone they choose as president.

In 2016 some organized democrats, Hollybrooders, and organized republican never-Trumpers begged electors in the electoral college to go against the vote of the people in their respective states. It didn't happen much.

37 faithless electors would have been needed. In the end there were three scalawags: John Kasich, Ron Paul, and Colin Powell

If they had done that I would have been more willing to deal with the EC as they would have done their job which was to stop a dangerious populist from getting into power.

The founders of this country set up a system of government for citizenry possessing morality, integrity and honor.

The Constitution is but a piece of parchment. It hasn’t the power to prevent abuse of it’s principles. It is the people who have the power to uphold or trample the ideals set down in writing on the hide of a poor dead beast.

    No.

All systems of government are imperfect. It’s inarguable our system (historically) has benefited the largest percentage of citizenry of any system in history. We changed the world. We are the most decadently wealthy society in history (even those we call poor). I can’t conceive why there is any stomach for going back to failed experiments of the past.

You miss the point of our system. A monarch? Really?

Why we need it like it is. Should a few big populated states dominate every election over the will of the rest of the nation?

doing a strictly popular vote would ensure a fully divided nation, take '16 as an example, 66 million to 63 million (rounded up) would mean that half the country never gets a say.

have a look at the map: the north east & left coast would make all the rules, get all the advantages of offered programs while disenfranchising half the population... seems the dem supporters here want it to be the same leadership for eons & the hell with everybody else, be careful cause you may just get what you wish for...
