I’d never heard of Huawei before last week. They are opening offices in Texas and California. I started up a piece of equipment there last week. Huawei has no techs in America and these are the first two. I couldn’t tell that they were an exact copy of another unit, but they were similar. They functioned well and I was impressed. After hearing the news, I suspect that we will be backing away from future work with them. We handle a worldwide contract with the US military, many other agencies. I doubt we want to jeapordize that business for Huawei.
This is all irrelevant. The cheap credit fueled stock market is collapsing. Republicans and the Clinton - Obama - Pelosi wing of the Democratic Party are the losers. The conservative crack party is over.
main issue with Huawei, is they do a lot communication network infrastructure, area where easily hackable, there is no way to prove they are hacking, but potential threat is real, so for government contract its better to be safe than sorry. but for individual who want purchase their phone working in non-DOD/DOE related field, its no big deal, their phone is good, ppl already purchasing One+, oppo, both Chinese company and iPhone/Samsung all manufacture in china. if Huawei is UK/japan company we wont have issue with it. The current Huawei product are not copy of any US product, they have substantial R&D.
That's so not true in the least, it's only your own deflection from the truth. Do you always have this burning need to insult people?
What if Iran started making a list of anyone in the world who sold military-related equipment to America, and had them arrested and extradited to Iran if they ever stepped foot in any Middle Eastern country (like on a business trip) that had an extradition treaty with Iran? We don't know exactly what this woman is being charged with, but presumably it wasn't illegal in Canada where the company was operating. Canada, Europe, and Australia want to stick with the past agreed terms of the Nuclear Deal and don't want to press more sanctions on Iran. The fact that Canada is apparently willing to extradite persons to the U.S. effectively means they are willing to subject people in Canada to U.S. law, which means they would be tacitly enforcing sanctions against Iran, even though they are officially taking the position that they are against the sanctions.
there will be hell to pay if she isn't released...a serious s---storm will be headed our way canadians and americans doing business in china would well advised to leave soon...
I read nytime and some other article, they are using Iran case to arrest her, but could use this opportunity to smudge Huawei so other countries wont trust them to install 5G network. currently China and US are in a tech competition for future 5G and beyond. It will be a big hit for Huawei if other countries decide not to using Huawei for their latest communication network.
Bolton admitted he knew the arrest was coming when he and Trump met with Xi of China. Zero chance that Trump didn't know about it.
There is a lot of speculation going around about possible ulterior motives for the arrest of Huawei's executives. It was the same thing with the accounting firm Arthur Anderson, as soon was they were indicted they immediately lost most of their business. Other corporate firms didn't want to deal with an accounting firm that was under scrutiny and being accused of possibly not being reliable and trustworthy.
i always wonder isn't this a self fulfill prophecy by treating china as an enemy. sure they steal tech etc, but espionage is common thing amount all the countries. remember snowden disclose US spy on german chancellor phone, if we were doing that to our ally, think what we are doing to the like to china/russia/iran etc. in the 70-80s when china was weak and had even worst human right, we cozy them up to counter the soviet. now we cozy up to india and try to counter china. history is repeating itself. thucydides(thucydides trap) predict rising power vs current dominate power will eventually have a war, that was 2500 years ago today we seem to fell into the same trap.
industrial espionage happens within the same country between domestic corporations not just between countries...
In addition to her fashion line her trademarks run across a broad collection of businesses, including books, housewares and cushions. Her clothing line is exempt from tariffs but her leather handbags are subject to the 10% tariffs. Her handbags, shoes and much of her apparel all carry the “Made in China label.” This isn't the whole point which is that the practice of sourcing her goods from China stands in stark contrast to Trump’s calls for “Made in America”. Her Chinese trademarks raise questions about conflicts of interest. His family and the company that bears his name are trying to make money off their brand in China’s flush and potentially promising market.
I didn't insult you, I questioned your statement, as you made it with no facts to back it. You made a claim that the only reason Ivanka got a trademark registered was because she is the President's daughter. That's an absolute. What proof do you have of that? And it's not difficult to get an item trademarked in a first to file country like China. What's difficult is keeping Chinese manufacturers from duplicating it and selling it against one's wishes without compensation. So, why don't you try some truth, and back it, rather than deflecting into an insult of me?
I had no idea that violating our sanctions against Iran constituted a criminal offense. Something tells me there's more to this story than meets the eye...
The latest trademarks included nursing homes and voting machines. I strongly suspect she acquired these so she could sell them after Trump is out of office. The thing I hate most about corrupt government officials is that they sell out for some of the cheapest nonsense.
You're very wrong about the degree of difficulty it is to get a Chinese trademark. The average time required for registering a trademark in China is at least 12 months (despite that the law provides that the China Trademark Office should make a decision on registration within 9 months). That's for ONE trademark. In May, 2018, Trump on May 13, 2018 said that he was working with China’s president, Xi Jinping, to save jobs at the Chinese telecommunications company, ZTE. Trump’s announcement was widely seen as a potential peace offering to Beijing as the United States and China threatened each other with tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of trade. Six days before the ZTE announcement, China approved five more of Ivanka's trademarks. Then, on May 21, China awarded Ivanka two more trademarks in snacks, spices and bleaching preparations. In total, Ivanka now has 34 trademarks in China allowing her to capitalize on her brand in the world’s second-largest economy. Now, why don't you look at truth, and accept truth?
When did Ivanka apply for trademarks? Where is your proof she got them because she was the daughter of the President? Finally, why does it matter?
Thank you for answering for your partner. What conflict of interest? It involves trademarks on goods she designs and sells. Did that stop the President from hammering China with additional tariffs in an attempt to stop the harm they are causing American workers and companies. It would be a conflict if he did not go after China because of Ivanka's business. I think some people struggle to invent things to attack the President with.
what do you think grand trade mark does,it give her benefit in chinese market, and she has business there. how would you know trump didn't back down on tariff for just a bit or even ignore tariff for certain product. how would you know Ivanka didn't say thing thats against US interest but her own. the reason is the Potential damage due to foreign business tie. for example american who are filling out SF86 for their clearance, they need to put down financial, especially foreign financial tie. if OPM agent decide they have financial tie to foreign government, they wont get the clearance, there is no trail, the suspicion of potential foreign link will be enough to stop them from getting clearance, or get them fired. this is true for normal american. Ivanka hold Top secret clearance and work as advisor for his dad, the potential damage she can cost due to bias or conflict of interest are consider catastrophic due to her position and clearance level. if she was normal person in a normal DoD job, she would be fired by now, unless she completely sever foreign business tie. again we set a standard for normal ppl but the elite can do whatever they want and get away with it.
