Yeah, I agree with you that she blew it on unemployment though I do think part of her quote about diminished purchasing power is accurate. But I will concede your point on unemployment.

She seems to fly off the cuff a little which she will have to watch as conservatives, while giving Trump a total pass on the idiotic statements and constant lies, will burn AOC at the stake just because of what she stands for.

As for Amazon, let's see, we will create all these jobs as long as you, the taxpayer, pay for those jobs??????? Like going to a job interview and being told, you're hired but you'll have to pay your own wages.

Does that sound like good economic practice to you?

Coming from someone who probably supports the Trumpster.....:roflol: I'll take delusionland anyday.

Apologizing in advance if you are not a true Trumpster but merely attacking AOC reflexively........

It's actually fascinating to watch. Give Trump a complete pass on the lunacy, lies and idiocy but crucify AOC for daring to mention policies that dare not say their name......why?

Imagine if Obama had done or said some of the moronic things Trump has or had half his administration under investigation or actually indicted?

Yet barely a peep from the reactionary right!

Hilarious, the op used the word "smart" in a thread about AOC. Good stand up. She should get her money back from Boston U for that economics degree. Hell they should have to refund every student that got an economics degree from that school. How embarrassing.

Who pays for all the free stuff and who is going to go along with all of the authoritarian control required?

To be honest, she's smart, but not smart on every issue. She's something of an economic illiterate, and she's not getting the best people for her proposals...the Green New Deal proposal is absurdly amateurish. A committed high school student could have written it better.

Of course, that said, one must bear in mind that for the last twenty-five years lawmakers on Capitol Hill have been spoon fed polished gavel-ready legislation straight from outfits like ALEC, who enjoy the kind of funding that allows them to hire people with "the best words".

So okay, AOC is unpolished and possibly bit uneducated in some areas.
That can be remedied, if she is open to it.

But she is sharp, and clever.

I would argue that as with all periods of economic innovation and change that the GND will stimulate economic growth and innovation for the future, create jobs and begin the inevitable process of weaning off fossil fuels and creating the economy of the 21st century.

Places like Germany have proven that this is possible and Robert Pollin of the U of M Amherst discusses in detail how just making our buildings more energy efficient can create jobs and reduce emissions drastically.

The point is, even if you think AOC is a loon, if we are not talking about alternatives and creating new innovation and ideas, the economy will suffer and we will be stuck will more and more de-industrialization - especially as the wave towards automation continues.

haha....hadn't heard Occasional Cortex before. Who says the right-wing has are humourless cranks with no imagination?:)

Yup. She is poking the corporate wing of the Democratic Party in the eye too- and making them talk about things they don't want to. That's a good thing imo.

What authoritarian control? The majority of Americans want universal healthcare and access to higher education.

And the free stuff meme is getting tiresome. Many times in American history there has been investment in human capital and it has been shown that people with higher education and better health outcomes make better wages and pay higher taxes, I think at a 7 to 1 ratio if I remember correctly.

In otherwords, raising peoples ability to buy stuff actually increases government revenue.:icon_jawdrop:

    Amazing huh???

If you google "Occasional Cortex" you get 1000s of hits. That poster didn't come up with the meme, neither do they come up with the 100s of her pictures with some variation of "stupid" written on them that circulate the RW blogosphere and internet. It's all just regurgitation of spoonfed information. No critical thinking necessary. Just call her stupid a million times and they think that this will make the green new deal go away, when in reality they realize that the fossil fuels are an energy source of the past, but they will only give them up kicking and screaming, just like the horse buggy guys didn't want to let go of those at the advent of the automobile.

Free healthcare, free education, free babysitting, etc..

Not sure how you raise peoples ability to buy stuff by taxing them more for all the free stuff.

What will replace fossil fuels in 10 years? How much does it cost? What is the measurable benefit? I think moderate democrats are beginning to worry about 2020, because this new wave of radical democrats make JFK look like a conservative republican!

Yes, she does...which makes it all the more bizarre.
But then again, I have a degree in English but if you watch this space, I'm sure I'll commit more than a few garden variety sins.

Nothing will replace it in ten years but it's okay to be aspirational about it.
Shall we point to the laundry list of conservative aspirations?
No, we won't, but if we wanted to weaponize everything the way you do, and then LIE about it, we would.
    Perhaps we need to start.

Oh yes, we can easily double our GDP by getting rid of cows, airplanes, and the fossil fuel industry in the next 12 years.

    Simple.

She doesn't seem to have a basic grasp on economics.

With Amazon she thought the city is awarded or gains 3 billion dollars, when they gain absolutely nothing.

Seems you don't understand economics. The company was getting a tax break they weren't asking people to pay their own wages.

I was curious how Socialists were going to do in 2018 and they under performed pretty badly.

It was a decent election for Democrats, definitely not the "Blue Wave" they are trying to sell as it ranked 13th out of 28 in the recorded history of the US.

So while it wasn't a breakthrough election, Democrats did do well enough where you would expect the Socialists to pick up a few seats. Even though Progressives through record numbers of money (ironic right?) they still were not able to win a single seat.

For the most part this seems true.

The Independents I talk to think she is absolutely bat dung crazy, but depending on how young they are her environmental standpoint can be the game changer.

But they definitely have A BIG problem with her when you bring up the actual points, it seems the younger the person is the more they are apt to recite the MSM talking points. But as those people have gotten older, they kinda just sigh as they say they realize it's all kinda Utopian dreams.
