    Good article.

A very simple principle, if more strongly enforced, would reduce violent extremism:
Violence is only ever justified as a defensive response to violence. Those who initiate violence are always wrong.

Additionally, I don't think globalization is a factor, rather globalism is.

Global interconnectivity and cooperation (read: globalization) is not only good, its natural for technologically and sociologically developing civilizations.

The attempt to artificially expedite the process by eliminating nation-states (read: globalism) undermines cultural identities and promotes a toxic form of multiculturalism where incompatible cultures have too much interaction and innevitably conflict.

Sometimes one chooses an avatar that stands for what you stand against ie exploitation of women. Although I chose mine more in the hope it would be a distraction :p

I stay up to date on what white supremacists and radical leftists are thinking. It does no good to cover your ears. Their ideas have no merit anyway so what's the risk?

On the other hand, the advantages are huge. You stay up to date on their inside jokes so you know when they're talking among themselves. A lot of gaffs by moderate individuals (the OK "hate sign" for instance) can be avoided by knowing thy enemy.

The response by the Kiwis for instance has been basically a verbatim list of the demands of the shooter. This sort of thing could be avoided if more people read the manifesto instead of sticking their heads in the sand.

    Ignorance kills.

You are vastly more likely to be robbed than shot. There are currently 10000 -12,000 homicides a year in a population of 330 million. that means your odds of being murdered are 1 in 27,500. I don't think that quite equates to a warzone. Your odds of being killed in a mass shooting are even lower. Thanks for the fine example of hyperbole.

I don't see poverty as a reason for radicalization. Poor intellectuals are more likely to get radicalized, yes, but this is more because they're intellectuals and less because they're poor.

The problem with sites like Jihadwatch - which is a good source for the study of Islamic extremism - is that they don't tell the whole story. It's a bit like Photoshop - big chunks of reality in the Islamic world are left out, the spotlight being on the violent, militant aspects, transmitting a distorted image to the uninformed reader's mind. I know because I've been there.

Yes, I almost fell into the radicalization trap myself, years ago, due to sites like Jihadwatch. What saved me was the unholy alliance against Muslims between honest right-wing bloggers, who led the fight against Islamic extremism, and the European fascist far-right. It opened my eyes.

I'm neither a fan, nor an enemy of Islam, Christianity, left wing, right wing, or other ideologies. I think we should first acknowledge that every issue has many aspects and sides, and then examine thoroughly every aspect and side of every issue, in order to gain insight and knowledge. It's the only way to avoid radicalization.

It sounds like the "lone wolf" aspect is important to your definition, so maybe you should be asking if you're at risk of being an NPC.

Sorry, but I know far too much about history to think much of your distinction.

I'd say that the typical trump supporter is already radicalized and primed for violence.
We need to keep an eye on them.

So your telling me that White supremacist have murdered more than 5000 people? Sorry but Al Qaeda killed more people in one incident than White supremacist have in the last fifty years. If you don't count 9/11 you aren't even attempting to be honest.

Just don't forget to hand over your guns to your local democratic government in their latest slew of gun grabbings...

No son, you can't keep an eye on us because we don't live with you, and we are heavily armed. Your best bet is to stay where you are, and just continue worrying about the climate changing. You might care, but... you really don't matter.

You're unarmed so basically nothing burgers.

It seems to me that the msm will only suggest we analyse the ideology of the NZ shooter, but in their typically
hypocritical manner, never ever analyse the ideology of islam.
But of course that would be islamophobic now wouldnt it.

I think people get radicalized because they share the same sense of grievance.
When the grievance is valid, the radicalization is authentic and the way to deal with such radicalization is to address the grievance honestly.
If the radicalization is fake, and just an excuse to promote an agenda, then exterminate them quickly.
