Take the 15 seconds to read the outline of the book linked to, it clearly answers the question your asking.
Oh, so we can pretend that this discussion is only about a single attack and the specific individuals who participated in it? Please. You were responding to an atheist who seems to be on the Sam Harris train of seeing religion and religious doctrine as the greatest forces for violence that the world has seen and ever will see. A discussion on these lines requires one to consider the role that religion and especially religious doctrine plays in political violence. Your use of the slur "Koranimals" indicates that you believe that religious doctrine also plays a role in this attack. If you agree, then my line of discussion is appropriate. If you disagree, then you and our New Atheist friend are simply on different wavelengths.
No they do not, because most people are reluctant to simply say, there is no god and if there was then he would not want you to kill anyone in his name. They pussyfoot around because they have their own god and do not want to recognise the simple truth.

As I like to say, a progressive could be decapitated by an Islamist, and the detached head would continue on with a screed about Christianity, the Western world, and Israel.
Here's difference, people that I know personally were saying things like "I wish he'd gotten more" regarding the New Zealand shooter, and watched the livestream of the shooting with a kind of glibness. None of the people I know personally are taking the same attitude to the attack in Sri Lanka. The result is that both of these tragedies take a completely different tone to me. In a slightly different world, my cousin is the New Zealand shooter. That matters. I believe that this century is going to see Muslims killed by the tens of millions, mostly by Europeans. The dehumanization of Muslims taking place today is going to play into the coming catastrophes.
LOL, propaganda. How many were killed during the Spanish Inquisition? About 3,000 over three centuries. How many witches were killed? 19. 14 women and 5 men.
And people like me see that as a catastrophe, and it plays into how we react to the New Zealand shooting versus the Sri Lankan bombings.
Muslims are the biggest killer of other Muslims. Could we see violence against them by europeans? Absolutely and they aren't exactly making conflict less likely.
Indeed, and we Westerners have played and are playing significant roles in the situation the Islamic world is now in. They already are, and it's going to get much, much worse.
The New Zealand shooter was immediately labeled as a Trump inspired white nationalist. I just took a look at CNN’s reporting on this story and there isn’t a hint of who they think may have done this.
haha, another lib having to go back 100s of years to find Christian violence. This is getting old, sad, and quite pathetic. Time to find a new angle
Yes, the political interpretations of events play an important role on how they're reported. For example, the elite classes of our country focus so much on the "Russia, Russia, Russia" scandal because it allows them to pretend that the current political moment is not one of their making, but a sort of alien intrusion. Trump, Brexit, Russia, and populism, they think, are aberrations that will fade away and normalcy will return. They can't face the fact that the world is changing and that they're failing to adapt. I too find it annoying that Al-Jazeera, in what I've read so far, hasn't so much as hinted at the bombers even existing. I also found it annoying that so many on the right were unwilling to accept that the New Zealand shooter is the symptom of the political moment we now found ourselves in.
They have a different political interpretation of the matter than you do, and so what they report and how they report it takes a certain tack. Would you be willing to accept the role that anti-Islamic rhetoric has in increasing violence against Muslims?
Where are you getting info that Muslims were involved? I find nothing to that effect. Have you forgotten the recent civil war there? That wasn't about Islam at all and I should think that's a more likely line of investigation.
You are not looking too hard it's all over EU media and so far a number of world leaders have condemned this attack in the name of Islam.
