https://news.gallup.com/poll/259841/american-pride-hits-new-low-few-proud-political-system.aspx Just what you've always suspected, surprised it's that high. "The latest overall declines in patriotism are largely driven by Democrats, whose self-reported pride has historically been lower and has fluctuated more than Republicans'. Democrats' latest 22% extreme pride reading is the group's lowest in Gallup's 19 years of measurement, and is half of what it was several months before Donald Trump's 2016 election victory. For their part, most Republicans have remained extremely proud of their country, and the latest 76% reading is just 10 points below the high recorded in 2003. Even when Barack Obama was in office, Republicans' extreme pride never fell below 68%."
From your link 45% are "extremely" proud, the second straight year of sub-50% readings I guess real Americans are ashamed of being laughed at on the world stage. Technically it's only tRUMP, but I guess many think he represents America. He doesn't. Just one of the fringes.
Not real Americans, liberals are dragging the numbers down. Blame it on TDS, but note Republicans even during Obama's terms never dropped below 68%, even though they despised Obama just as much as you do Trump.
Yup. Totally expected and a lot higher than I thought. 22%? When Trump has turned America into a Worldwide Laughingstock? It looks like the Pollsters heavily skewed the poll in favor of Trump.
Trump isn't popular in Old Europe currently being made to pay their fair defense share, he's quite popular in Eastern Europe. https://www.dw.com/en/my-europe-why-eastern-europeans-like-donald-trump/a-46254389
This is appropriate: “The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war.” -Sydney J. Harris
"Only 22% of Democrats Extremely Proud to be American" most Americans, left and right are not proud of the Trump Administration heck, Trump supporters do not think America is great, that is why they wear the hat
I'm surprised the Democrats' number is that high (22%). They're not exactly known for their patriotism or love of country. Psst.... it was Make America Great Again for Trump's first run, following Obama's presidency (and God knows we needed some pro-America course correction following Obama.) Now it is Keep America Great.
We can probably manage with less patriotism (and especially nationalism) all around the world, whether in the US, Russia, China, Brazil or Eastern Europe. We all live on one small planet and need to get along with each other.
Maybe it’s because Obama did not play the fool to people like KIm Jung Un and MBS. And the fact that world leaders liked and talked to Obama, and has as much trust in him as they would in any American. He didn’t play the clown for the TV cameras.
There is also a big difference between patriotism and the kind of flag waving blind devotion that some folks fall back on instead of thinking. Chest beating and bluster are not strength. Carousing with pariah nations because the real world leaders won’t talk to you (because you’re an untrustworty fool) is not leadership.
Such is to be expected when a country facilitates the Election of An Unprepared IMBECILIC Amateur (who was elected on a Fluke (with only about 27% of eligible voters)). I still have a hard time believing the 22% number. It should be ZERO.
Obama didn't like America, and his sycophantic worshipers followed suit. After all, he's the one who didn't believe America was exceptional. That's like saying you can't get along with your neighbors if you love your own family more. One can be patriotic and still get along with other countries.
That's pretty much it.... the pride will return when real government returns in 2021... No worries... I'm sure the "pride" numbers were down during Vietnam and Watergate as well...
What I find interesting is that independents who stayed in the upper 40's to low 50's since 2006 have fallen down to 42 and 41%. I also noticed Democrats have been less proud than either independents and Republicans since 2001 with the exception of a couple of years where the Democrats moved above independents, but never above Republicans. Not even in the Obama years. I'm not sure what that all means as one can read into it as one wants. It probably has something to do with the politics of the Democratic Party.
Be honest, If you were a foreign country trying to take advantage of America, who would you rather deal with Trump or Obama?
Trump's second term. Except the "pride" numbers weren't down significantly among Republicans even when the despised Obama was POTUS. Why?
