Wikipedia is not the arbiter of definitions. Again, calling something a duck doesn’t make it a duck. Of course, if you are one of liberal mob...
What the public believes is not what counts, what the U.S. government conceded to when they dropped the charges of violating ITAR in Defense Distributed which is now precedent is what counts. And what the U.S. government conceded to was semi-automatic firearms like the AR-15 are not suitable for military use therefore they are not Assault Rifles.
By the way White Supremacists, if they belong to a organization that the FBI has listed as a criminal organization, are forbidden under federal law to possess firearms or ammunition. So this whole thread is a moot point.
If you are knowledgeable of firearms, it is a nonsense label, if a GCA ignorant of firearms, it’s a label the MS media uses to describe a firearm used in the most recent mass shooting.
Which gets back to the initial reason for this conversation. The FBI, all by its lonesome, is deciding what is a criminal organization and therefore who can not own weapons. It is like using the No-Fly lists to determine who can have, or not, a gun because those lists are based on secret criteria, controlled by secret people, and once on, are almost impossible to get off of. Doing this for one right means that all the other rights can be removed by backdoor means. Even if I thought guns were just evil, evil, horrible things to be got rid of, using methods like this would make me uneasy.
In order for the FBI to designate such, the organization must have been involved criminal activity combined with convictions of it's leardership.
But it effectively converts a firearm to a machine gun. "Bump stocks allow semi-automatic weapons to fire like automatic weapons, making guns like the AR-15 even more deadly. Banning bump stocks has widespread support and it’s encouraging to see the Trump administration take action on this commonsense gun safety proposal." https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/pu...eases?id=A8A811CC-3F01-45B2-9006-CFFA8B109124
I don't think that's good enough. Did the El Paso shooter belong to any organization classified as criminal by the FBI?
And in the process it becomes a very hard to aim and unreliable firearm, had the Vegas shooter not used a bump stock his kill rate could have been much higher, spraying lead just wastes ammo, if he aimed he could have made nearly 20 kills per mag and considering the number of rounds he fired, that could have increased the body count by three times or more than it was. Actually the people at that concert where better off because of him using a POS as a bump stock.
That's for the FBI to solve. And what would you consider "good enough," within the framework of our justice system?
That would be another useless gun control law. Submachine guns can be manufactured on the cheap by anyone with drill press and a few common tools. Or they can just save their rubber bands.
Fiction. That is like defining a baseball bat an assault weapon because it can be used in an assault.
I do not have any formal training as a machinist but with some supplies that can be had on the cheap and access to a high school shop class I can build you a functional full-auto MAC-10 or MAC-11 within a week. The toughest part is rifling the barrel but carbide buttons can be had at a very fair price.
But, more increasingly, When I built my Sten from MKII WWII plans in the early 70’s, I first used a smooth bore because I hadn’t sorted how to do rifling. Sometime after getting the timing and feeding adjusted (lots trial and error), I scavenged and fitted a barrel from a non functional gun I had acquired that was from WWII vintage, itself likely the product of a DIY build... it was perhaps from a long barrel Lugar...never knew for sure. It worked, but so did the smooth bore version in what would have been close quarters distances. In semi auto mode, even production Sten MKIIs weren’t all that accurate at any distance because of the long primitive trigger linkages that effectively used the bolt base as a sear, but then they were designed be used primarily in CQB scenarios in full auto.
It is very hard to buy one legally, and very easy to buy one illegally or make one from scratch. We have more than enough gun control laws. For the most part they only encourage more gun crime.
