Is the decay in moral standards in societies across the world juxtaposed with the decline in religion?
Yes it is. People seem to want others to be moral while not looking at their self in the mirror. But I will say it is more complicated than that. I would attribute some decline in religion to some religions becoming corrupt. This is not the fault of religion. Humans are flawed and tend to be self destructive.
Prior to Trump I would have agreed with this, but this president's amorality is definitely having an impact that cannot be ignored.
OP do you really mean "juxtaposed?" or does the decline in morals "correlate" with the decline in religion? If the latter, we -have- a very strong new prevailing religion now, it's the effeminate, materialistic-consumerist, celebrity culture MSM/social media, and IMO our decline in morals does correlate with the ascent of that new religion. Think I'm being hyperbolic? How many Americans can quote scriptures from any religion versus quote lines or scenes from Game of Thrones? (or any of hundreds of other movies or TV shows) How many observe any religious practice versus watch and believe what Ellen Degeneris or Rachel Ray or Rachel Maddow or Tucker Carlson or a WHOLLY FICTIONAL CHARACTER tell them as to the meaning of their lives and how they should conduct themselves? Good news is that new religion won't last a whole lot longer, at least among the people who matter in the world, and tremendous backlash to it is forming.
By picking and choosing the verses that are important to them and ignoring the ones that are not? Convenient By a book written by man and edited by kings about an all mighty power that impregnated a child only to later allow his own death to rewrite laws that he had previously created... and if you follow the obscure rules in place you get to worship at his feet for eternity... Delusional There is absolutely a moral decay occurring, it’s painfully apparent in many trump supporters
Violent crime is lower now than it was 100 years ago, when far more people considered them selves religious. We had major World Wars, Great Depressions, famine, large monopolies, segregation ... the last two decades have been relatively peaceful in Europe compared to 1500 years of religious wars and Empire building where millions were killed. Too many people look at the past through rose-colored glasses.
First it has to be defined what's that moral decay is about. Our societies knew some evolutions, I would consider that some evolutions about women's right and gay people positive. There is aswell a huge evolution on how we represent ourselves the world. By the way, photography, TV changed our view of the world. I'm among the people that consider that writting is superior to most things. I don't says that photography or movies are useless or they can't be used in noble way, but writting remain superior to me. It's very important to define what is this the moral decay. Existence is pitiless to fools and weaklings. Being served is an evil, a necessary evil but still evil. Being served make you weak. People who like to being served end badly. How ended the roman which relied on slaves and on "foedus" barbarian people to defend themselves ? They were annihilated by the barbarians that served them. How ended the french nobility, fat, lazy and which seeked only enterntainment ? They were erased from existence by the french revolution. How ended the aztecs which enslaved the nearby tribes ? Annihilated. For the fools, I think what happened to Nazis and Imperial Japan is well known enough. What are we ? We are a civilization where the priority is to be entertained. Who serve us ? The chinese which do the same job than us but for a much cheaper price. The migrants, which get the poor jobs and that we use to compensate for the children we don't raise. The earth itself, oil is limited and was a capital gathered among million of years that we wasted in a few decades. We're like the romans entertained and served, and we will end like them. That's the nature of the most animal parts of our brain which always seek comfort and the easiest solution.
Isn't this question in the wrong forum? Furthermore the OP makes fallacious assumptions about some imaginary "decay in moral standards" that have no basis in reality. Was society more "moral" when gays were forced to live in the closet and blacks treated like 2nd class citizens? The OP has FAILED to establish that society today is any more immoral than it was in the past. Then there is the failure of the OP to substantiate a "decline in religion". Islam is one of the fastest GROWING religions in the world and it ranks second only to Christianity. What assumptions is the OP making about this imaginary "decline"? What credible statistics does he have to demonstrate that the world was MORE religious in the past as compared to today? And then there is the DOCUMENTED HISTORY of this same fallacy being used to bemoan the "decay in society" that has been around for more than two millennia when Hesiod wrote about it around 700 BCE and Cicero and Horace wrote about it around 60 BC. Plenty of others have done the exact same thing in the intervening centuries thereby establishing that this asinine fallacy of "moral decay" says far more about the moaner than it does about society.
The moral decay is the direct result of Leftism. Anyone brought up in the 50's can remember how everything was being liberalized: child-rearing, schooling ,,,, everything. Since leftist societies have failed everywhere they have been tried, they have no tolerance for speech they don't agree with. They have worked to break up families and any other entity that tries to influence young people, like churches. Johnson's Great society was designed to create a population of losers by breaking up families. It was highly successful at creating rudderless young people who then would vote in their own interest for more of the same. Kids who are lost have no positive influence in their lives. That is by design of leftists. In the extreme, the population of loners is growing ,,, some trying to compensate for their lack of self-esteem by killing people or joining gangs and killing other gang members.
LOL! Ya, every bad thing started in the 20th century ? Are you saying nothing immoral or bad ever happened before 1950 ? Please explain...

I actually said what I said. Would you like me to read it to you slowly? Two quotes apply here: “Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.” ― Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America “Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.” ― Alexis de Tocqueville Liberalism has led us on the road to serfdom There has been plenty of immorality, but there used to be a stiff wind blowing in the direction of good will and morality. Then came liberals.
In the supposedly 'moral' and decidedly religious 1950s people were convinced that standards had declined from previous eras (presumably not the 40s, when the holocaust & carpet bombing were the in thing). During the Victorian era, which is pretty much a byword for uptight 'morality' people were convinced that standards were lower than previous.....and so forth. People tell themselves all sorts of fairytales.

Uh, What year did liberals appear with their invention called " immoral" ? Pleas show proof of the Utopia that existed before "liberals" appeared.....where was it? Where was this place where everyone was moral and good?
The reality is that society evolves and usually towards being every more liberal but there are occasional periods when theists attempt to impose "morality" and then everything sucks for everyone who is not a member of the cult. Those who whine about society evolving are usually those who are afraid of change and can't handle it themselves. Fortunately we have elderly people who embrace the changes in society thereby establishing that it is the curmudgeons who are the problem, not society.
