When you're as well heeled as the average Progressive, you don't need to worry your elite educated head about boring working class budget stuff .. you can spend your days in the leisurely pursuit of Virtue!

Up until fairly recently, the entire planet engaged in 'atrocities' as a matter of course. There was no soft option.

Does it reflect badly on me that I forgot indigenous people day was a thing?

Sure, but as a society we’re better than that, and even small steps in the right direction are better than none at all.

Not really. I forget either are a thing each year until someone mentions they’re coming up on the calendar.

A step in the right direction would be to remember that, while she's pontificating about the names of holidays in the First World .. children are starving to death in the Third World.

Are you saying that the United States is incapable of focusing on two issues at the same time?

That’s fine. No ones got a gun to your head.
Would like to ask though, any reason you have a strong opinion on it one way or the other?

How can we possibly advance (the human condition) when we have a tiny proportion of humanity - the RICHEST and SAFEST - angsting about grotesque trivialities while children starve.

Here's an idea .. we forget our 'delicate feelings', if for no other reason than to avoid the massive insult to those who are starving. We're safe, we're fed, we're not at war, our water is drinkable, our kids are educated for free. The very least we can do is desist with the outrageous insult, even if we refuse to give up our monopoly on resources.

It was a clash of two civilizations - one civilization was ripping the hearts out of little children and another was burning people alive.

    Those were confusing times.

So true! How many indigenous tribes were litterly wiped out by other indigenous tribes? We can also mention massacres of white European settlements throughout North America by peace loving indigenous peoples. I won't bother. I'll just settle on recognizing that "all have sinned". Columbus did the world a great service! Happy Columbus Day!

So what about our culture and way of life do we owe to indigenous people and are so grateful for?

Goodness! I hope you don’t spend any part of your day thinking about or pursuing anything that one might consider trivial. Not when there are starving children in the world. Surely you spend every moment of every day chasing that one noble cause. Would hate for someone to be insulted by your grotesque angst.

But seriously, it’s okay for a country to be interested in correcting societal woes while also working to solve more pressing and life threatening problems. I have at least that much faith in us.

Apparently I spend more time thinking about it than some.

Also no, it really isn't okay. And calling any of the outrageously trivial challenges faced by fat, spoiled First Worlders 'woes', is deeply insulting to those who would give anything to be able to experience such 'woe'.

Very few people — if any — believe that.

We should not be celebrating a man who murdered, robbed, raped, and enslaved people — and never stepped foot on US soil.

The white man moving into black or native lands is invasion. When the reverse happens it’s just diversity and people looking for a better lofe. White people being protective of lands is Xenophobia. Minorities being protective is natural. All so HILARIOUS:)

Indians did the same to each other before any white man set foot in America

And we also shouldn’t rewrite history and try to convince new generations that native Americans were peaceful and weren’t murdering each other on a daily basis, cutting their enemies open or tearing off parts of them while still alive.

I have to wonder why you’re on this forum debating a range of topics when there is apparently one so pressing that no other matter could possibly be addressed at the same time. Surely you ought to be boots on ground bringing food to the starving children.

But that would be a pretty extreme course of action to take, right? You have a life outside of that one matter. There are other things that are also important to you, and that’s alright. Do what you can. Care about as many, or as few things as you like. Just don’t harass people for doing the same, ya know?

The point is obvious. You're being hypocritical.
