    Yep hitching a ride on a corporate ship coming here to establish a colony to produce marketable goods and trade with anyone else living here. I would add this the Pilgrims also had concerns that their children were being influenced by the Dutch culture which was different from theirs and wanted to maintained their British roots and thought going to the new world would allow them that.

    And it proved to be one of the earliest and more pertinent experiments in comparing a socialist economic system and a capitalist economic system. And of course the capitalistic not only won but save the entire endeavor from socialistic destruction and helped to set the course of the future United States.

    This is not what is being claimed. Stop with the strawmen.

    Why is Columbus worthy of celebration? He was an opportunist who got his rocks off raping little girls and dropping babies in boiling oil. He made a lot of money doing it, too.

    Hell, "Columbus Day" wasn't even a thing not too long ago.

    He didn't discover it. There were people already here. Hell, he wasn't even the first European here.

    Columbus never even stepped foot in what would become the United States, so why is this an American holiday? We celebrate a man who essentially discovered the Bahamas. If anyone wants to celebrate this genocidal opportunist, it should be the Europeans.

    Its an important part of the New Worlds history.

    Yes, Vikings made it to Canada-thats significant as well.

    And yes there were "people already here" though they had no written language nor knowledge of the wheel, like africa.

    Also, he's significant to Americans of Italian decent.

    Calling him a genocidal opportunist is an artifact of the modern left.

    Genocide was not why 3 ships sailed off into uncharted territory.
