SNIP Peloton, the maker of expensive in-home exercise equipment, faced backlash and a slight stock price drop after online criticism for the company’s latest holiday commercial boiled over earlier this week. This is not the first time Peloton stationary bikes have been ridiculed. Earlier this year, memes circulated on social media criticizing the lifestyle necessary to afford the $2,200 fitness bike and $39 monthly membership fee. Ample free space for the bike is also needed. ENDSNIP https://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending-now/peloton-ad-sparks-outrage-stock-drop/1016055198 I gotta be honest folks.. I've watched this ad several times and see absolutely nothing wrong with it.... It's not making me want to buy one of them, but that doesn't make it "outrageous". I guess the theory is... what? That the woman is already in good shape? So what? If it inspires her to get in better cardio shape and feel better about herself, this is bad?? There are cheaper ways to do it, but that's another story... The husband is "making" her exercise for some reason?? That's not indicated at all in the ad... The ad is in the URL I seriously don't get it.. Please weigh in... What am I missing here??
Fat leftists don't know that you can be skinny and out of shape. Plus, they're just angry all the time anyway.
I agree Ego. The ad to me looks like she's been wanting one for awhile and hubs finally gets her one. I think the outrage is stupid. I asked my husband for years for a Kitchen Aid mixer and he would never get me one, he finally got me one for Christmas a couple years ago and I was so happy! His reasoning was "you don't get your wife kitchen or household things for Christmas". Me.... I love that stuff because I love to bake
Here's why leftists hate this ad: 1. It has Christmas imagery 2. It has white people in it 3. The white people in it are a straight married couple 4. The white married people in it have kids 5. The white married woman is fit, attractive, and has a job and kids and loving husband 6. The white people in the commercial are happy 7. The white people in the commercial are solid middle class 8. Worst of all, the attractive, married white people with money, good jobs and a good family are happy All things that piss off leftists.
I don't want a Peloton either. imo it is very expensive, and to spin a crank I got to be outside; it would just gather dust in my house. It's not for me. Some people find the Peloton system inspiring and they love it, and they get excited and positive about getting in their revs and they improve their health. If it works for them it works for them. Period. Hats off to those who like it and benefit their health and happiness by using it. imo it is a good ad by a company trying to get sales at an opportune season. It's the American way. It is exactly what the company is supposed to be doing -- sell more units, make more profit.
Not offensive, but I don't know why any one would spend on $2,300 bulky poorly designed clothing rack.
Nah. Totally WRONG. And not even close. That said, the "attacks" against the ad are completely unfounded.
I like the other one they have with the Dad getting his peloton on singing along with, is it the Black Eyed Peas? I think they listened when people complained about the whole "image" of users being in cushy high rise apartments with awesome views of rethe city with 2 walls of windows. That isn't regular everyday people.... I like that they started using real life scenarios. To be honest, I wouldn't hate my husband if he brought one home for Christmas. I'm just a regular girl who enjoys keeping her figure, when it rains here, I can't go on my walks.
Yeah?? Somehow, I don't think you've got your finger on the pulse of the problem (although you have likely located your own)
Peloton has had some pretty good bouncing cleavage scenes in their commercials. I am offended that they do not have more of that.
I just re-read by OP and realized something... In my last line, I asked everybody to please weigh in.... Seriously, wasn't intentional, but I crack my self up...
Ya, I didn't get it either....the woman got the gift she wanted (shrug)….( even fit people need to keep exercising...) Funny, but there are so many worse commercials, I don't know why they picked this one...
It is quite obvious you have no real idea of what you are talking about, all you have is conjecture on your part. Your hatred shines so clearly.
This kind of reminds me of the car commercial (Lexus, I think?) where the husband gets the wife a new car with a big bow on it, and people were outraged at the ad and how "unrealistic" it was and "who can afford a new car for Christmas" and yadda yadda. The thing is, there are plenty of people out there who can afford to buy their wife a new car for Christmas, and there are plenty of people out there who can afford a Peleton, and the people who manufacture/market those items have just as much desire to reach their audience as some company hawking whatever cheaper crap the outraged masses think is more "price appropriate" for whatever income level they think is more "acceptable". My customers are those people ---- the kind who can afford a car for Christmas, or a Peleton. Shrug. It is what it is. It's stupid to get jealous over it. On that same note, it's stupid to be jealous because some woman is "rail thin" and still wants a fancy exercise bike. Get out and exercise more if you're that insecure about your own weight. Or we can live in a world where all of the commercials show fat haggard women in cramped messy apartments with kids screaming in the background while she begs her husband to buy her a new Snuggie because the dog barfed on the last one.
Got my fingers crossed for ya, but I think you are going to have to probably be a little pushy to get something that expensive... One hint isn't likely to do it.. Peloton should release a "prequel" to this ad, showing the woman leaving little hints for a couple of months, like open catalogs. Maybe show this woman was a bit heavier in the year before he bought the bike, and it was her reward for getting to where she was happy. But that would be pandering and unneeded... America is silly sometimes... we all have to keep our eyes on the ball....
