You couldn't go two feet without making judgement calls, but those trivial judgments aren't the type of judgments I think Jesus was referring to. He was talking about the judging like: you are a fat lazy slob, and therefore a bad person. You are a Trump supporter, and therefore a bad person. You are a Democrat, and therefore a bad person. All this judging and condemnation is not good for people. Americans are awash in technology and "Winter jackets, beach bikinis, HDTV, Filet Mignons, hamburgers, fries, and chocolate cakes, Christmas trees and present, vaccines, jets, hospitals, and cruise ships to the Caribbean". Is that working for us? The suicide rate is through the roof, life expectancy just dropped (again), people are killing themselves with drugs and booze in record numbers, and everyone's pissed off and at each other's throats. This is a profoundly disturbed society.
Those folks are free to leave the criminal/drug/political/pinkcuntcap monstrosity of capital-W town and move to any state.
Since we don't live in Iceland they have absolutely no bearing on this conversation The idea that everything we do should be based on what some guys who lived 250 years ago believed in is ridiculous. These men had an IDEA, and they did their best to draw things out in a way that they thought, based on the times that they lived in, were good ideas. The founding fathers believed in slavery, and not only were they not allowed to vote, they literally only counted as 3/5ths of a person. The founding fathers also believed that women should not vote, so they kept them from voting. These were the ideals of these "founding fathers", that are no longer valid as we grew as a people and as a nation. And among the things they could not foresee were the changes in population density. And remember, the founding fathers firmly believed in "One man - One Vote", so I'm not sure how you can reconcile the position that states override the person i.e. land counts more than people ?
Every election is 1 person 1 vote. People in MT do not vote in NY elections, and vice-versa, so this comparison cannot be soundly drawn.
Iceland’s solution to the problem of the tyranny of majority is to discount urban votes. Sorry you couldn’t figure that out. Call a Constitutional Convention and change the Constitution via the Amendment process if you don’t like the Constitution.
I agree with you concerning gerrymandering. However, allowing NO representation in congress from those citizens living in DC is a MASSIVE lack of representation. Both Wyoming and Vermont are smaller, yet they have a combined SIX full voting members of congress while DC has ZERO! You can not POSSIBLY argue that allows minority voice. It does the exact opposite of that.
George Washington laid out a tract of 10 miles by 10 miles square to be used for the purpose of running our federal government. Known as DC, it was government by the US congress. Subsequently, that was changed slightly to have the federal government select a mayor for the district(!!) Even today, DC can NOT run its own concerns. For example, it is prohibited from acquiring funding for infrastructure enhancement needed by the district. It may not pass its own budget. It has no voting membership in congress (where decisions concerning DC are made). Etc. In subsequent congressional action in the 1800's, the Virginia portion of that tract was ceded back to Virginia - proving that such action could take place for some or all of the remaining territory that makes up DC today - for example, returning most of the territory back to Maryland, giving DC residents the right to vote for congressional representation, freeing them from congress (in which they have NO representation) ruling them, etc. Such an action would not require a constitutional amendment (or ratification by other states). For example, it didn't require constitutional change to cede the Virginia portion back to Virginia - a decision that was made in part because of the economic importance of significantly upgrading their harbor. (An example of the problem of having the federal government dictate decisions to a public that has no vote.) Of course, the other route would be to make DC a state.
Of course. We do reapportionment based on the census every decade. And, that does NOT favor large states. It is NOT the same issue as systematically and throughout the future allowing grossly unequal representation - which is what the EC was DESIGNED to do.
This study by former Census Bureau researchers and now statisticians at Sentier Research has found gigantic income gains for the middle class under Trump. The median or average-income family has seen a gain of $5,003 since Trump came into office. Median family income is now (August 2019) $65,976, up from about $61,000 when he entered office (January 2017). Trump's already re-built it.
Really??? You missed that?? Our national election of our president takes place in every state. And, MT voters have WAY more representation than NY voters.
One hundred square miles set aside to run the government with no consideration to make it a state ??? Why could that be ???
DC was never intended to have voters in it. It was intended to be a separate area, so that the federal government wouldn't be influenced by local interests.
Us is not my problem; my life is my only concern. The young are committing suicide because they are taught the future is dire and the Human Being is too damn selfish to be good enough to sacrifice hisself for the sake of humanity, and must be forced to serve the needs of others. Drugs and alcohol are abused because the human mind resents and is repulsed by such horrid evil and seeks to escape the pain of the brain in chains. Furthermore, Where the mind craves knowledge, it it’s given faith; where the mind searches for morality, it finds innocence crucified; where the mind search for the truth, it is told there are no absolutes. This why the human mind chooses to escape that Vonnegut nightmare world by taking the exit door. Want liberty? Want peace? Want prosperity? Embrace capitalism. Want slavery? Want war? Want poverty? Want famine? Want hell on earth? Embrace collectivism. Doubt it. Visit Cuba, Venezuela, or North Korea. Reality will show you the truth.
No its not. teh electoral college proves that. If you voted for Donald Trump and live in New York or California, your vote went to Hillary because winner take all electoral college from those states The electoral college is ONLY for the the federal election of the POTUS.
