The Trayvon/Zimmerman incident was probably the first time a lot of people had ever heard "white Hispanic" before, as Zimmerman came to be known. It's also when a lot of people started to realize that progressives enjoy playing loose and fast with racial identity (though they also claim it's merely a social construct) depending on circumstances. For example; Barrack Obama = first black president, George Zimmerman = white Hispanic.
