Let’s go with the economy, by far the lesser of two evils.

 

Amazing that people are fearing this like it’s a plague. 7400 people die a day on average in America from all causes.

The economic destruction and loss of life from this shut down will be far greater than this virus can do.

 

The President’s got the cart before the horse. We’ve got to get up to speed with the basics, testing and supplies, and floating the economy until we get there. We’re way behind the curve.

I can’t imagine the liability issues if workers are sent back into the workforce against the advice of medical professionals.

 

Exactly. As Dr. Birx pointed out the policies of the states are being formulated based on the tyranny of averages. Instead of acting strongly locally, for example in NYC, Cuomo has shut down the entire state.

 

Keeping the economy shut down will have far greater negative impact on life and health than this virus could ever have. Thankfully we have some leaders who are bold enough to say that.

 

All of that is being done. And Trump is not considering restarting the economy tomorrow. Plus he has no control over what the individual states do.

 

They don’t have to go. Adults need to act as such.

It doesn't matter what Trump wants. States will decide when to ease up. They're not going to while cases are doubling every couple days. New York hospitals are already being overwhelmed and it's just the beginning.

The data from NYC is driving policy for other states by tyranny of averages. Take NYC out of the overall data and that number of US cases is ~ cut in half.

BTW the number of deaths in the US in the last 24 hours was only 14. That’s of course still tragic but good news.

 

If we stay at home, we aren't spreading it. That's kind of the whole idea.

 

I don't remember anyone being worried about our kids and grandkids when Trump saddled them with the future liability of his unpaid-for tax cuts.

In any case, they'll do a $2 trillion stimulus, and the economy will be fine. people already are working from home, as do I, it is not like everything is coming to a halt.

For me, not much has changed, we do lectures live from home, meetings continue to be the same, just with zoom. Hands on research has come to a halt, yes, but we do manuscript writing and computer simulations, all from home. Except for restaurants, bars and tourism, live can go on like this for a while.

 

And if these places are complacent, they will be exactly where NYC is two weeks in the future.

 

All Trump cultists care about is Trump and what they need to do to help him, regardless of what they are going to do to healthcare workers, flight attendants, and the elderly.

 

How does that explain wind and solar tax credits, airline emission regulations, postal service debt, etc, etc?

How nice of you to choose preventable death for thousands to millions of people. This isn't "all causes". It's one cause. And we can stave it off long enough to give our medical community and infrastructure a chance to prepare. For as long as that takes. Anything less is beyond irresponsible.

 

How many people need to die before you take this pandemic seriously? Old sick people are not the only ones being hospitalized wth this. It started out that way, but now it's hitting young, healthy people too. This thing spreads like wildfire. Staying away from each other is our best defense at this time.

This is America. We an rebuild our economy and our standard of living.
