In the last 90 minutes (I was sleeping, am not feeling well), we climbed over the 900,000 mark in COVID-19 cases:

    2020-04-001 MOD COVID-19 over 900000 001.png

The death rate has risen from 4.92% to 4.99%, effectively, 5%. That is VERY high.
The recovery rate has ticked up slightly from yesterday.

And the statistical look-back to 02/27/2020:

    2020-04-001 MOD COVID-19 over 900000 002.png

With more than four hours left to go in my day, we have already added +58,000 cases over yesterday. If the cases mount up at the end of my day (between 4:00-6:00 PM on the East Coast of the USA), then we will definitely go over the +73,192 cases from yesterday over the day before.

Italy has reported 717 deaths today. That is slightly less than in the last days, but still an enormous amount. More shocking is the steep rise in deaths in England:

    2020-04-001 MOD COVID-19 over 900000 002 by country.png

Spain tends to revise it's statistics in the later evening, or better put, it puts out statistics twice a day. So, the +589 out of Spain is bound to rise again some.
The UK is currently posting +563 dead, it was +381 yesterday.
The USA currently stands at +463, but this is guaranteed to shoot up by 6 PM on the East Coast.
Germany is also starting to see a rise in the number of daily deaths. Today: +83

The USA has now gone over the 200,000 mark in COVID-19 cases, far outpacing any other land on Earth. But, the USA is also testing more now.

I know. I can find a 2-week supply of meat on one trip, but no rice. The next trip, I may find a big bag of rice, but no water. Next trip, cheese but no pasta. Next trip, pasta but no meat.

Meanwhile other things run out. So I may find one "prize" per week while being out of something that I thought I had plenty of.

The only thing I can think of that many religions may say is critical to their faith would be communion....which could be done in a drive-thru format. That would take a lot of gloves though if done without risking people. I say buy some crackers and a bottle of wine or grape juice and everyone do communion at home while watching a livestream. Sigh.

I think it was valuable to test everyone on the cruise ships and everyone at the nursing home in Washington. We were also testing most people who were tracked down as having contact with some of the early cases....not sure if every state did that, or some just said to self-quarantine if they were a "contact" person.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I'm hoping your symptoms are some other than "the" dreaded symptoms, and that you will feel better soon.

You are exactly correct. The person that tests positive should backtrack all of his visits and anyone that was there at the same time should be tested and so on. Our state is keeping up with people and their contacts. We have one positive in our county and 33 that have been tested, a few still awaiting test results. If any of the ones awaiting their tests are positive there will be more testing.

Even today there are forum members claiming this is nothing worse than the average flu year.

That is extremely kind of you. No COVID-19 symptoms that I know of. I was just suddenly unbelievably tired and had to lay down.

So, I went through the list of things possibly wrong with me. Here's my list.

    1.) Getting a little old.
    2.) Getting pretty darned old.
3.) Getting scary Alfred Hitchcock terrifyingly old.
4.) Methuselah is gonna be jealous and I'm going into the Guiness Book of World Ageings.

Hmmmm.... not real sure which one it is. Y'all can vote!

Ok, that was a little levity. Only, I'm used to powering 15-16 hours through the day and then collapsing in bed at night and now, my entire schedule is swimming in the deep end of a pool somewhere. Not used to having to nap.

Indeed. I've done very little thinking about that angle, but indeed, among the world's great religions, interaction with shared food is part of this.

Gen Terrence O'Shaughnessy (commander, NORAD) is speaking on CNN. He is a REALLY good man. The US military is watching the COVID stats unfold just as we are, and I have no doubt that NORAD is doing what's necessary in order to keep running.

If people would stop trying to make this political and try to come together to realize we are all in this together. This virus doesn't care who or what you are everyone is vulnerable.

This seems like a never-ending nightmare.

The Navajo Reservation, which spreads over NM, AZ, UT is basically in a full lock down wit a curfew.

Fatigue is one of the lesser known symptoms, but it doesn't sound like you've been around other humans lately.

I do hope you feel better soon. Excess stress and anxiety can bring about fatigue too, and lower your general immunity.

Only a few of us agreed to that sentiment and others didn't, so it's voluntary restraint of partisanship as I see it. The temptation of course is to respond to a partisan comment with a one-upmanship opposite comment or outright insult, so we end with a full page of typical mudslinging with nothing to do with tracking and support. Oh well. The bipartisanship on the thread is better than others.

I usually just breeze by the political posts on both sides until I get to one that's more in the spirit of everyone working together.

It's easy for me to blow past the ridiculous partisanship. What is bugging me is the people who think this is a nothing-burger/left wing hoax/no worse than an average flu year. It's maddening. I went to BJs yesterday in search of two things. (They had neither.) Still seeing couples, families, etc., wandering around the store. I'm so frustrated that people aren't taking it seriously. One household member per store. My favorite meme is "your grandfather was sent to war in a foreign country. You are being asked to sit on a couch. You can do this." Apparently not.

Apparently she has not the virus, she would be dead by now.
But it shows how sloppy and crappy that whole response and testing in the US is.
In Germany the Governors and Mutti had a tele conference and they all decided to extend the measures to the 20th April. That is what I call pulling all in the same direction.
In the US you see School closing only ( Florida ) and a nearly complete lock down in the Navajo Reservation.
No unified response in the US, no real leadership from the State level to the Federal level.

My governor in Texas is doing a great job. Cuomo in New York is doing a great job. Newsom in California is doing a great job. I don't have time to follow all the states, but listening to conference calls throughout the days, I hear some criticism, but mostly praise, bipartisanship and cooperation between the state governors and the White House Administration. The country is divided, but this is the most unified I've seen it since 911 when we had a common enemy.

Looking at the numbers, there is not one country who is sailing through this pandemic unharmed. This is the world against the virus.

Florida's governor just announced state-wide restrictions to begin Friday at midnight.
