It means mandatory. We did it here, New Zealand did it, Vietnam did it, etc etc. It means no more than two people together outside the home. It means no movement further than your closest supermarket and pharmacy. It means no 'loitering' in parks, on beaches, on the streets, etc. It means no recreational activity. It means complete lockdown. No vehicles on major roads except freight and emergency services. No businesses open but supermarkets, pharmacies, and hardware stores. And so on and so on. All punishable by on the spot large fines (we handed out quite a few of those fines here .. because there are always people selfish enough to think the rules don't apply to them), and policed thoroughly. New Zealand went one further and made it illegal to travel more than two kilometers from your home. Parents who had to work were provided with in-home childcare, and those who couldn't access food were supplied with groceries via the military. In Jordan it meant no leaving the house AT ALL for the first two weeks - followed by two weeks of foot travel only. Those who were out of food were provided for via the military.

This is how it's done. And when even relatively poor nations can manage it, it's pretty clear that America - the richest and most powerful nation on the planet - could have done it easily.

So you've never unintentionally said something false before?

That’s not what a lie is.
“The act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid“ you can’t measure intent. It’s an ACT.

it doesn’t even talk about intent. When you cause Someone to accept something as true, when it’s really false, it’s a lie.
    Obviously, McConnell lied.

LOL ... no, not even close! If you had, you wouldn't now have 2 million cases .. while New Zealand has zero. America's response has been nothing more than a token gesture. You guys didn't even do the bare minimum (all national and state borders closed, no travel beyond your local area/town), much less nationwide simultaneous complete lock down. No outlawing of multiple people together outside the home, no outlawing of recreational activies, no shutting down of subways, no policing for compliance, no mandatory quarantine in dedicated facilities for US citizens returning from overseas, etc etc.

You could so easily have done it, too. No one will ever fully understand why the richest and most powerful nation on earth just gave up and surrendered at the first hurdle.

So are you under the impression that the US is 2 million times worse than NZ in the number of cases?

    I'm not American.

What gives you this impression? I was under the impression that these kind of restrictions were in place, the exact rules differing between the 50 states.

Are you suggesting that the NY subway should have been shut down? How do you think doctors and nurses were getting around NY for the past three months? And how do you suggest that they could have got around if not for the subway?

    Compliance for what?

"The act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is FALSE or INVALID." So the person has to know that what they are saying is false or invalid.

You've obviously never heard of the US system known as 'federalism.'

Do you even know which people he is talking about?

    How is it self serving?

You think that New York was the only state with this problem?

Where is Trump's speech? Can't you give Trump a bit more time to make a speech about the pandemic? It's not even over yet!

I suppose there is no reason for me to reply to this nonsense, given that you weren't able to reply to my partial reply.

National Safety Council? What is the relevance of this? You should know that I was talking about the National SECURITY Council.

I apologize, sometimes I get confused as to who has said what and what is directed at who.

Can you direct me to the number of the post containing the partial reply I didn't reply to? Thank you.

Yes and no. Our mandate was never anything more than "strongly suggested" Some other nations actually arrested people, and imposed fines. They also coupled this with other measures, gone into elsewhere ad nauseam, and they did them far sooner than we did. That is important, once this thing gets to certain degrees it seems that it cannot be turned around.

So there were no arrests or fines in the US?

No significant ones that I heard of. There may have been some. The problem is that the enforcement was spotty and variant at best.

The hospitals were overwhelmed at the time and the nursing homes were sterilisable areas. A lot of cases were coming from Nursing Homes then but that is because they were full of very vulnerable populations, many of whom may have had the virus for some time. It was not because there was something inherently promoting the Corvirus in the Nursing Home itself,

Because Trump didn't care. "****'em they're old" was his obviously implicit attitude from the beginning when he questioned Fauci as to why we couldn't just "let it burn through" the population and kill millions. Just why he wasn't afraid of getting it himself is a further indication of his seriously psychopathic personality, which simply doesn't comprehend such things as threats to his health not caused by specific poisons.

That’s totally not the point. I’m going on Trump’s present statements. Do you actually want to go there ? At some point medical science WILL develop a vaccine. That has nothing to do with Trump’s knowledge of pandemics anymore then Trump knows about science in general and dissing AGW and the military according to his own generals.

I challenge you to find erroneous statements about pandemics made by Obama...or any other President !!

Do you really want to follow his statements ?
His lack of knowledge is in display about most things....now
