Harris says the riots will go on no matter who is elected. So Joe will have to decide to allow them to go on (and risk being viewed as weak by an ever angrier electorate) or use the Johnson model of dealing with them. Here’s what that looks like. Watch carefully and tell me if the troops in Portland can even compare:
First, Chicago 68 was a police riot. The protesters weren't rioting. Police were attacking most anything that moved. People that were part of the Convention, locals, beaten, often severely and hauled to jail. I'd put that on Daley more than LBJ. If Biden gets elected, and the new administration works on police reform, and starts working on the problems Blacks face, you will see this stop. It's a choice. You can solve the problem, or attack violently. The permanent answer in a conflict is reconciliation. Anything else is temporary, it will come back.
The PROTESTS will not end until there is meaningful police and criminal justice reform. So unless and until Biden/Harris can do something about it quickly, I wouldn't expect to see an end to the PROTESTS. And, as we have seen, as long as there are protests, there will be opportunists who use the backdrop of the protest for their illegal pursuits - rioting and looting. So I don't see that ending soon either.
There were tons of reform under the Johnson administration and it just fanned the flames of the riots. Perhaps the US should pursue arrests rather than threatening their stimulus checks. And so far that is only proposed legislation! Violent people only understand disproportional government action. That is absent presently so there is no counter balance. There is nothing preventing further violence from the violent elements of BLM or Antifa.
I’m glad we can agree on this. I fully support protests as long as they don’t interfere with the lives and safety of others or the normal day to day intercourse of people just trying to get to work or enjoying a bar or restaurant at the end of a difficult day or week.
1) Colin Kapernick was peacefully protesting the murder of unarmed Africa-American men by the police. He NEVER said anything disrespectful about the country, the flag or the military. Certain people wanted to make him look ungrateful and unpatriotic so they'd have an excuse to hate him and make him shut up. 2) Our elected leaders have control over the issues that people are protesting; they make the laws, not the police. African-Americans are treated differently by the police---it's as simple as that. Look at what happened with Kyle Rittenhouse. He is the 17 year old White kid who was walking down the street in Kenosha, Wis. carrying a long gun. If Kyle Rittenhouse had been Keshaun Jackson do you think he'd still be alive? NO. 3) Sadly, there are many Whites who cannot stand to see African-Americans protest at any time, under any circumstances. They want us to go sit down and shut up no matter what kind of cruelty and injustice we face. They want us to accept stuff that they would never accept for themselves.
He said it himself, " “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color…” It's about hatred of the country, and it's always been about hatred of the country. He couldn't have been any clearer. You may not want to admit it because people have been lying about Kaepernick's words and intent. Just admit the truth, you'll feel better. It's ridiculous to compare two different situations that are radically different. Rittenhouse didn't resist at any time. Blake resisted the entire time. And I noticed that you ignored my entire point about resisting arrest. Can you say right now that if a black person is pulled over or about to be arrested by law enforcement, cooperate and do not resist arrest? I can say that about white people: "Attention White people! If pulled over, questioned, or arrested by law enforcement, cooperate and do not resist arrest!" Now let's see you say that. No....once again, you have the right to protest. You don't have the right to riot, loot, or commit arson or murder. If there were ONLY protests without the riots and mayhem, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Unless you want to include all of the rioting under the banner of "protests" we don't disagree on your right to protest.
Since you are being purposely obtuse, I will end this conversation. Practice social distancing. Wear a mask while out in public. Wash your hands frequently. Take care and stay safe. Bye.
Krappernick! Ha! If there ever was an award for the most opportunistic, self-pitying, self-serving, jive-ass clown, he would be in the top five contenders! . "Why doesn't anybody take me seriously...?"
Would you want to converse with the protesters after watching a couple of the Mayors , who were on their side be shouted down and even attack a sitting Senator or invade their neighborhoods. I'm pretty sure it would lead to bloodshed. Anyways do you know what the protesters want? I don't.
You see my message count, I'm right here, ball in your court Instead of protesting for someone else to do something why don't they do something themselves? For disrepecting the flag and doing so at a sporting event. What good did it do, have things gotten better? And the Democrats who did that are all gone now, strawman. "Peaceful" protest based on false narratives fueling anarchy in the street is not going to accomplish much but a civil war. Have an intelligent response this time?
You're exactly correct. It's the Mayors of the cities where riots and or violent protests take place that has the responsibility. If the Mayor's can't handle it, they can request assistance from the Governor who has the tools available to help or end the riots and or violence. It isn't a federal problem unless the governor requests federal assistance. At least that how it has been in the past. If the protests are peaceful, there isn't a need to request assistance or anything else. Peaceful protesters need to be protected. Those protesters who turn violent need to be held accountable.
No I gave honest responses to your questions. You just don't like the answers and have no response for them. So it's easier for you to bail than to have your assumptions challenged.
I 100% agree. But there are a lot of arrests and a lot of charges stemming from riots and looting etc, you have to give the DA's office extra funding to hire some part time help if you expect them to follow through with cases over the next 6 months. You cannot expect them to handle 50 or a 100 cases hitting the dockets and keep up on their usual caseloads. A lot of DA's are dropping charges and giving lip service because they simply don't have the staff hours and the investigation hours to pursue them. There are rapists, murderers and some big white collar cases involving years of investigation that they will not set aside for a case of someone who threw a brick through a window and grabbed some clothes.
The outcome of the violent 1968 race riots was that the country didn't have to find out if Hubert Humphrey was capable of stopping riots. Richard Nixon ran on a platform of restoring "Law and Order". The country wanted the riots to stop. If history repeats itself, we won't find out whether Biden can stop today's rioters or not.
Law and order= Keep those N words in their place! Isn't it interesting that Nixon ran on a platform of law and order, yet he had one of the most corrupt administrations ever.
Yes, well, it was Democrat LBJ who talked about how to keep the N-words voting for Democrats for the next 200 years. Only 145 years to go to fulfill his vision. Having the voters of the country want peace, law and order is a separate issue from Nixon's paranoia and actions which cost him all his legitimacy as a president. Two separate topics.
No, they aren't separate topics. Nixon appealed to the fear and ignorance of his base---the same way Trump is doing now. Law and order is a dog whistle---nothing more, nothing less.
Humphrey might have won if "keep them in their place" segregationist and racist Democrat Wallace had not been in the race as an Independent. Law and order is an expected right of the citizens of this country to have safety and security. Even 81% of black people want the same level or more police. These riots, looting, fires and destruction are going the opposite direction of what the vast majority of Americans want.
