"Mexican cartels such as CJNG or Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa cartels are arming themselves with military-grade weapons. And the Mexican government is saying most of these destructive weapons, such as AK-47 and M-16 are coming from the United States.... "The Mexican government says 70% of crimes committed with guns in Mexico are linked to guns that came from the U.S. and of those, more than 40% come from Texas alone. Sanchez says the weapons that are crossing the border are extremely dangerous.... "Mexican officials have asked the Biden administration to help get guns removed off its street. The request is something that the DEA says is already a part of their mission since the drug trade and guns go hand in hand." https://ktxs.com/news/nation-world/...ith-military-grade-weapons-coming-from-the-us Hopefully, Biden can do something about this sad situation. Another AWB would help if it's strict enough.
There are very few AK47s or M16s in the US, and all are tightly controlled by federal law. The US should tighten in ts gun laws because Mexico can't secure its border
I can cherry pick too, but wouldn't that be dishonest? I was responding to "violent crimes including gun crimes tend to soar after severe gun control laws are imposed." bull. https://www.politifact.com/factchec...al-post-isnt-correct-australias-gun-laws-vio/
The statement was: And the Mexican government is saying most of these destructive weapons, such as AK-47 and M-16 are coming from the United States. Someone is either lying, or doesn't know what they are talking about. Decide which, and let us know. Sure they are - they are extraordinarily adaptable and well-suited to almost all legal uses for a firearm. Unsupportable nonsense. Oh, and: The US should tighten in ts gun laws because Mexico can't secure its border
Is that supposed to contradict the fact that guns can be easily obtained by criminals even in authoritarian states that pass laws to disarm their citizens/subjects?
The inconvenient truth: “THE number of crimes involving handguns reached its highest level for seven years in 2000… The total was more than a third up on the previous year, according to figures given in a parliamentary written answer by Lord Bassam of Brighton, a Home Office minister.” Thomas Harding, “Handgun crime soars despite Dunblane ban,” The Telegraph, 11/01/01. ( emphasis mine) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1314245/Handgun-crime-soars-despite-Dunblane-ban.html
How so? One has to pass a background check, have ID, and complete a lot of paperwork. It's not like a sweater. How common they are means nothing.
It's clearly not enough if they are being trafficked to Mexico on such a large scale. Biden has proposed updating the NFA to require registration of assault weapons and a buyback for people who'd rather sell their guns.
Ten year olds were hired to assemble automatic and semiautomatic "assault rifles" from scratch until so much black market military surplus priced most of the little backwater operators out of the market. Firearms are ancient tech. Dangerous authoritarian regulations only impact the law abiding.
In fact, the UK like other Western nations has seen violent crime, including gun crime soar after the bans. "The rise in crime in England and Wales is accelerating, according to police figures, which show a 14% year-on-year increase in offences recorded by forces across England and Wales. Knife crime has gone up even more steeply, by 21% in the 12 months to September, and gun crime has risen by 20%, according to quarterly figures released on Thursday." THE GUARDIAN, Rise in recorded crime is accelerating in England and Wales Police figures show offences up 14% in a year, with knife and gun crime rising even more steeply, Alan Travis Home affairs editor, Thu 25 Jan 2018.
Even after the gun ban submachine guns were easier to buy than a "bag of chips" in the UK according to UK police.
What makes it to Mexico is not our problem. There is no such thing as an assault weapon, and registering things has no effect on if it goes to Mexico or Montana. Prohibition has never worked.
1. Teach people what a loophole is. 2. Teach people the difference between a strawman fallacy and a straw purchase. 3. Don't pretend to oppose gun theft when supporting gun laws that allow the government to steal them. 4. Stop inventing names designed to demonize legally owned firearms. There is no such thing as a ghost gun. 100% of your list is already in place in CA. Now all you have to do is show how we are safer.
5. Teach people what a straw man fallacy is. A straw man cannot reply and defend a position. What loophole are you referring to?
You can’t stop private sales without registration of all guns, which the left has shown they will use a gun owner list to disarm people, so what you want won’t happen. The answer to “register your guns with us”, is “what guns?”
Without proof that sounds amazingly like paranoid conspiracy theory. Buyers in private sales should have a background check or the seller will be liable.
