That last sentence needs some serious explanation.

I know you are searching for a justification for killing Floyd. I get that.

But, then you talk about committing other crimes, teaching a lesson, etc.

There IS a lesson that needs to be taught here.

And, that is that killing someone who poses zero immediate threat is murder.

The more I read and the more I see, the more I am inclined to not call this murder. He should be declared not guilty of all charges.

We can not have a standard of murder in this country where police can kill anyone they want.

There has to be a line.

Thus we need law that we actually enforce that states when it is justified to murder another person.

I don't see ANY possibility of there being such a law that would be both acceptable AND would condone the murder committed by these officers.

I forgot what this is called .. ex post facto cause or some such thing. You can not go to a blood test after the fact .. find drugs .. and say .. The cops did what they did because he had drugs in his system .. because they did not know.

The knee restraint was taught and approved by the Minneapolis police at the time.

Floyd had a deadly amount of drugs in his system.

The autopsy did not find any bruising in the throat area which indicated that excessive force was used.

Floyd was already complaining about having trouble breathing.

Those facts alone are sufficient for a not guilty verdict.

It is in people who are in such poor general health that should not be a) running around doing crime (which is extremely stressful), and b) physically resisting arrest once caught.

How far do you want to go to protect adults from themselves?

And yet that same action done to a healthy and drug free individual, would not have resulted in death. It would also not have resulted in the death of someone who never committed crimes or resisted arrest.

Actually the lesson is that crime (and drugs) don't pay.

American police have an insanely, impossibly difficult job. There's no way the conditions they work in won't lead to some deaths. Even if every cop was moral perfection, criminals would still die in the process of crime fighting. And it will always be an accident, inasmuch as it's never the intention. To expect no deaths to ever occur is spectacularly silly, and suggests a fragility and entitlement not compatible with modern life on the mean streets of a socially dissolute nation.

COVID and sickle cell disease are relatively slow deaths that takes days or years to be lethal. Cannibis isn't really lethal at all and people live through taking fetanyl. What a weak case to excuse police brutality.

Actually the EFFECTS of sickle cell disease (or any other similar enzyme deficiency) can cause a susceptibility to things like myocardial infarction. Since COVID can also do that, the guy was almost certainly a cardiac time bomb.

Yes, what police are taught is a major part of the problem.

When someone is having trouble breathing it is NOT A JUSTIFICATION for murder.

The very idea that is OK is just plain ridiculous.

If a nurses find you having a hard time breathing, can they kill you?

If a firefighters find you having a hard time breathing can they kill you?

I'm really curious - where did your idea come from?

Can someone who deliberately puts themselves in extreme danger be protected from themselves? Will you stop the world to protect stupid adults from harming themselves via their terrible choices? To hell with the (far more numerous) good people that that sort of thing will compromise?

I keep rereading this and I just do NOT see a excuse for murder.

People will die. That doesn't mean we have no choice but to allow murder in situations where there is zero threat to the police or the public.

Killing a guy who is in handcuffs and begging to breathe is murder. Police don't get to murder.

Your life was not improved by these policemen murdering Floyd.

Pretending THAT is the issue is just pure sophistry.

It isn't murder, any more than a pedestrian running out on to the freeway is murdered when he gets hit by a truck. Police don't want to kill anyone. The nature of their work means there will be 'freeway runners'. We either do something about the terrible culture of easy crime, or make peace with that fact.

Reducing the situation to a cartoonish binary of 'good vs evil' will just ensure there are evermore Floyds. Is that the goal?

Wow do YOU ever have this case backwards.

Your truck driver can be assumed to have had no way of stopping your hypothetical.

The police who murdered Floyd had NUMEROUS options that were EASIER than killing him.

They weren't trying to kill him! Do you have any idea of what these guys have to contend with, on YOUR behalf? To keep YOU safe from the likes of Floyd? They are required to be 'trucks'. Not only via policy, but because the sh!t they have to deal with is so overwhelming that not even a supercomputer could be trusted to do it perfectly safely in every single instance.

Ther is nothing "cartoonish" about calling 911 for medical assistance.

In fact, the officers could have used their radios to expedite that.

YES, the goal is for policemen and others to recognize that murder carries a penalty.

That is the primary method we use to deter murder in America.

Throwing that method away without you explaining some OTHER method is more than just irresponsible and absolutly WILL cause more harmless civilians to die.

A cardiac time bomb that was expedited by the gross negligence of the officer on his neck.

The problem is a society which has enabled and feted criminal behaviour! How you thought that could have gone any way but bad is a freaking mystery for the ages.

As long as you keep ignoring that root cause, you will perpetuate these horrible outcomes.

You don't seem to get it. A dog could have chased him a couple of blocks and the same thing would have happened. Someone in his family could have jokingly given him a jump scare and the same thing would have happened.

But none of those things happened. A cop knelt on his neck and caused it.
