Cheney slams Trump on 'big lie' over election BY JOSEPH CHOI - 05/03/21 10:55 AM EDT Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Monday shot back at former President Trump over his claims that the 2020 election was stolen, accusing those who spread the claim of “poisoning our democratic system.” “The 2020 presidential election was not stolen,” Cheney tweeted. “Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.” Liz Cheney @Liz_Cheney The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system. 9:27 AM · May 3, 2021 Cheney's tweet came in response to a statement earlier Monday morning from Trump, who called President Biden's victory in the November 2020 election "the big lie." "The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!" Trump said in the statement. ... https://thehill.com/homenews/house/551459-cheney-slams-trump-on-big-lie-over-electionHow many real Republicans does that make in Congress? We had 7 senators vote to convict the Giant Impeach the second time around and just 1 (Mitt Romney) the first time, as I recall. The story says Liz is one of 10 in the House who voted to impeach. Not many have been very outspoken since either vote, though. Nice to see Liz Cheney taking a stand publicly against Trump's biggest lie of all.
Let's see, the election was November 2020 and today's date is May 3rd, 2021...WHY have we not let this GO yet? This isn't "taking a stand publicly", this is regurgitating the election, long after it's been completed. Donald Trump will do that for the rest of his life, but there's no reason for us to join him. He's no longer a person of any relevance.
I completely agree. Unfortunately, however, Arizona republicans have allowed for a private company - with no auditing experience and the owner an open supporter of 'stop the steal' - to go through the ballots in Maricopa county with zero transparency. So, I would say that he is making himself a person of relevance.
Has Hillary Clinton let the 2016 election go? Oh yeah she's democrat royalty so she can be a total pos and libos won't care.
In some minute form perhaps, but considering the courts overwhelming rejection all this amounts to is the equivalent of a druggie telling themselves they're not an addict . You don't take their words seriously because they're impaired, the same thing with Trump. What Liz Cheney and everyone else has to realize is that Trump is going to Trump, and the longer they keep bringing him up, the more he'll be 'prevalent' in albeit that very limited fashion. And if the GOP fears "Trump influence", all it has to do is show concretely that its policy and its message can be more effective than Trump's. The GOP's real problem is not Donald Trump, but its inability to defend conservatism. So rather than the rule of law, that should be their first fear right now because Trump no longer has any influence on the rule of law.
I came in here to basically say the same thing that I bolded of yours, but looks like you did it already and in better words than I probably would have.
Because Poll: 70 percent of Republicans don’t think the election was free and fair https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/09/republicans-free-fair-elections-435488 and Trump's influence looms as GOP looks to recapture Congress in 2022 Republicans looking beyond intraparty disputes and focusing on winning back the majority in next year's midterm elections face one seemingly unrelenting hurdle: former President Donald Trump. Despite Trump's effort to stay fixated on relitigating the 2020 election, most Republicans remain loyally behind him, hoping to use his sway over the constituencies he folded into the party to reclaim the majority, while a far smaller faction wants to leave him behind. But whether Republicans like it or not, Trump has made clear he plans to use his influence in next year’s races, particularly as he maintains an ironclad grip on the base. The shape of that influence, though, is largely on his terms despite the best efforts from party leaders to wield it. ... https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trumps-influence-looms-gop-recapture-congress-2022/story?id=76348665 Trump remains quite relevant, as does his Big Lie about the 2020 election. In fact, laws have been passed by Republican state majorities base on his Big Lie and Republicans in Arizona are conducting a shame audit of the election on that basis.
But what about the general populace? 70% of Republicans amounts to maybe, 15% of the general vote. So unless Liz Cheney is thinking of running for the Republican Nomination, it doesn't make sense. And even *then* it doesn't make sense, because the GOP is handling this the wrong way. This is the way I would handle it: "If Donald Trump believes that the election was stolen in 2020, he can easily run again in 2024 and the voters can once again decide both here in the Republican caucuses and should he make it, in the general election. But his belief and the reality contrast each other. The fact of the matter is, no matter how many recounts were done and no matter how many people look at it: Joe Biden won the election and is your duly elected 46th President of the United States. Period, end of story." "But I would also pose to Mr. Trump a question: If the elections were 'rigged', why would he consider running in another one? If they rigged one against him, they would rig the other ones too wouldn't they? And why weren't they so 'rigged' in 2016? As you contemplate this, you understand that Trump's words are what he wants to believe, but not what the reality actually is."
And that's why I applaud the courage of Cheney - to try to restore her party's conservatism and what it used to stand for - in the face of the bully.
If Democrats are so confident Biden won by a bazillion votes, they would welcome any chance to confirm it.
They did... It was... Move on... P.S. Not sure how many zero's in bazillion, but the generally accepted number is 7,052,770..... so SUPER tight!!
I agree, so I'm glad Liz Cheney is the one firing back at the Stand Up Comic of Mar-A-Lago, and not anybody I generally approve of...
The Establishment class won't go away quietly. If you don't think the Liz Cheney "outrage" is manufactured, then you are a dupe.
Why would she be lying? Trump abandoned at least two core Republican principles: free trade and balanced budgets. He squeaked into power via an obsolete electoral college system and promised to build a Wall across our southern border, tax cuts, military spending, annual GDP growth of 3%+ and withdrawal of U.S. forces from the Middle East and Afghanistan. He succeeded on tax cuts and military spending, meaning he reduced income and increased spending.
Eventually, all the ballots will be so smudged and degraded that no further "recounts" will be possible... Then they can finally declare VICTORY!
I just love that Nancy had to poke the bear(s) here... SNIP "Word is out that House GOP Leaders are looking to push Rep. Liz Cheney from her post as House Republican Conference Chair — their most senior woman in GOP leadership — for a litany of very Republican reasons: she won’t lie, she isn’t humble enough, she’s like a girlfriend rooting for the wrong team, and more," Pelosi's office said in a blog posted to her website. Trump and his followers are being sued for their false claims and they continue this junk. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.
