Well if you really think about it, it was originally a penal colony! So what's so odd about someone going there and not being allowed to leave ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My only question is, did he receive a seed packet to start his new life as a farmer?

Aussie government once again looks like complete idiots that can't even decide what's what amongst themselves. Like I said last week, the world is laughing. I guess the prime minister should have meet with Australia national tennis and lay out the requirements before Australia Tennis was announcing visa requirements. The fact that he got a visa then went there only to be put in dentation is flat out dumb when your talking about the #1 tennis player in the world. Prime minister tried to be tough, whoops.

My take would be that he should expect a chorus of boos.
From his first match all the way up to (and including) the trophy presentation (if he wins).

At no point was Djocovid barred from leaving the country.
Maybe you think sporting authorities rather than federal government should have final say in who is allowed to enter a country?

It was made clear to Tennis Australia that a previous case of Covid was not grounds for a vaccine exemption back in November

Yeah, I've already indicated that's not gonna happen.... I do wish this guy had the power to have Djokovic tested (at his expense) frequently during his stay, but I'm not even sure he has that power... he seems to be an immigration guy, not so much a health guy.

Pretty much every major sport has continued to be affected by COVID this winter (NHL and NFL especially). Tennis seems to be different in that the opponents have no opportunity for close contact.

I would also think Tennis Australia would be well within their rights to have him locker and practice away from the other participants.... they'd be foolish not to....

    We'll see tomorrow.
It would be a move popular with the Australian public and it is an election year.
It's not over yet and the next major is the French Open. President Macron has publicly stated that he wants to piss off the unvaccinated.

I thought this would be appropriate for this thread. The fat guy, not taking care of himself, is worried about a healthy guy giving him a virus he would almost certainly survive if he wasn’t fat.

Here's an article on the possible reaction...

Tennis could turn into English Soccer circa 1978 next week....

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/novak-djokovics-australian-open-matches-181631514.html

I certainly hope there's no violence, but I expect cascading boos and subsequent whining about that...

Sometime it's out of ones control.

In my case, either I take the meds I need to go through a day without suffering from anxiety attack and live a productive life, but with the side effect that I'm always hungry for sugary food, that's a side effect of one of the meds which is a byproduct of insuline production. Or I don't take the meds and I end up in the hospital or jump off a bridge someday... I take the meds and live with being borderline obese for the time being. And before you say, well you could work out more, keep in mind that beside working 10 hours a day, I also take care of an elderly parent who has been diagnosed with lung cancer and can barely walk...

Maybe in two and a half year when I'll retire, I'll be able to better take care of my weight and health.

In short, everybody is unique and no solutions can work for everybody.

Then for you (and me), it's a demon.. I'm also a large man, but have managed to drop 45 lbs or so in 10 years, but 30 more would be better. it's hard, but there's usually some way to get heathier... best of luck..

Looks like Djokovic came out and admitted his visa application was incorrectly filled out... I will give him credit for that. I'm sure this would have come out anyway, but unlike American Republicans, he can admit a mistake was made and apologize (on behalf of somebody else).

    https://www.yahoo.com/sports/novak-...ravel-before-australia-arrival-052439473.html

That certainly will give the immigration czar the backing to give him the boot, which I still don't expect to happen...

First, why would anyone trust yahoo news... Second, why would anyone think of violence at a tennis tournament, and third, why would anyone be that rude to someone who isn't sick? Do you expect that folks would do that to you in public?

    So?
    You've got nothing?
And, once again, you have moved onto Personal Attacks against my character?
    Wow...:smh:
Are you expecting Australian Tennis Fans to welcome Novaxx with open arms?
    Good luck with that one:

    1. Yahoo news is just publishing a shortened version of an article from another source... I just use Yahoo for one-stop shopping... here's a full source, although I'm POSITIIVE you can find some reason to reject any news source

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...iolence-stands-Novak-Djokovic-freed-play.html

    2. There was violence when Djokovic was simply released from his immigration space. I never underestimate the power of the flat-earth/flat-brain crowd to create violence anywhere, anytime, for any reason (See 1/6)

    3. He didn't follow the rules and put his own wants in front of others... People don't seem to like that for some reason.

    4. I'm not a public persona, so that makes zero sense... If I was and didn't follow the rules, I'd probably expect some blowback.

LOL... you sound wounded. First, you're making an inferred claim that Novak is a danger because why again? Second, you're insisting that the correct response to his being there, healthy and all, is such an affront to the nice folks in Australian that they should, (and you do seem to be advocating for this here) being rude and vicious to him while he's playing in a tournament setting there.

I don't expect anything from most folks, but I can't imagine that tennis fans are going to attack the current best player in the world who chose to participate and legitimize their tournament by showing up. Folks just don't seem to get it that a major is only a major because of the talent that does show up. And should the tournament find that folks start not wanting to show up, they won't be a major any longer

Actions like the kind your'e advocating for look like setting up a hostile work environment. Why? Because you don't want someone to succeed because they don't cotton to your stupid tyrannical vax position? That seems pretty lame. More, it sounds like the actions of a spoiled child.

I'm getting the impression that playing in the tournament is't safe then for the players. If, as the DailyMail insists, violence is certain, why go? Why even play the tournament, even if you aren't Novak.. Why would professional players expose themselves to that kind of stupid violence? Perhaps a better way to look at this is the Jesse Owens example at the 36 Olympics...

Funny you post that as I was just thinking the same thing... Violence is more likely if he plays, so if he doesn't, the threat level goes down (during the tourney anyway). I wonder if the immigration guy will be taking that into account when making his final decision this week?? He should be.

Why should the other hundreds of players be exposed to violence they had no hand in creating? Once again in COVID world, the bizarre defense of the individual moron fails to take into account the vast majority of people who follow all the rules and should reap the benefits of such (even if they aren't as talented on a court).

I'm just foaming to have you point out a single similarity between this situation and Jesse Owens...
