Yes, it was surprising that more of the Trump goons smashing their way through windows and doors and savaging the far outnumbered police weren't. Lindsey Graham told police to 'use' their guns against Jan. 6 rioters: "What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You've got guns. Use them!" "We give you guns for a reason. Use them!" Graham told Capitol police on Jan. 6.
The scenario is total nonsense and Pence doesn't "certifiy" the results the congress does which it would have just as it did. Trump's term would have ended Jan 20th regardless of what happened.
Trump was not trying to prevent it, he was trying to get get 4 states electors decertified, as Dems had attempted the previous 3 elections, and a new slate in his favor appointed by those state legislatures so they would be counted. The LAST thing Trump needed was what happened. The debate was halted due to the riot and by the time Congress was readjurned time was out and they voted and Biden won.
Then the rioters would get jailed and Biden would have still been inaugurated. Trump asked them to march peacefully and cheer on some senators, and not others. Can only go by reality and not by hypotheticals.
You cannot argue....debate hypotheticals. So my hypothetical answer to the hypothetical question is, the rioters will be jailed, Biden sworn in and Trump would have asked them to march peacefully.
And what if an election audit uncovered a Democrat voting fraud amounting to 30 million votes in Biden's favour? Put that into your hypothetical conclusion.
Dems tried to get state electors decertified? Please link me to more on this https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow...een-130571333927?playlist=mmlsnnd_3096433-nnd
I would LOVE you to tell me how that could be managed - just as a hypothetical - happy to hear how “Democrats” managed to smuggle in that many fake bamboo laced ballots? Maybe it was the Italian satellites? Hugo Chevarez? The Kraken swallowed trumps votes?
See, hypotheticals are purely meaningless. Here's the problem. I'm centre right, I'm objective and governed by facts. Trying to base arguements and debates on hypotheticals, dreams, fiction, feelings etc.. is alien to me, meaningless. The facts are, Trump lost but he felt (and still does) that there were enough dodgy dealings going on that he was robbed of the win. And, per the US Constitution, he's challenged the result, but in Trump style (as in every day). So I watched his Jan 6th speech, I endured it to be honest, and he asked his followers to march peacefully, to cheer on certain senators bla bla, we know the score. So he's wants more and more election investigations and those that dislike him want more and more investigations on Trump leading up to Jan 6th. And that's where it's at. One other fact is, if you live on dreams, agendas, and feelings, you will call the above "Insurrection". Trump is Trump, he's one of the most determined guys on the planet, hence why he will go to his grave stomping about the election.
"The last three times a Republican has been elected president -- Trump in 2016 and George W. Bush in both 2000 and 2004 -- Democrats in the House have brought objections to the electoral votes in states the GOP nominee won. In early 2005 specifically, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., along with Rep. Stephanie Tubbs, D-Ohio, objected to Bush's 2004 electoral votes in Ohio. Ah! Fox oh! Bless! Objecting is one thing - deliberately substituting faithless electors is something else yet again
Had those states electors been legally challenged in the Congress and those state legislatures decertified them and sent the votes of a new slate or electors that count made him President, then yes, maybe he would have been President and pigs would be flying. But then mostly likely there would be a court challenge to that and an emergency ruling by the Scotus. Not going to predict that without doing a more research. However if, in my speculation and reading of the Constitution, Jan 20 came and there was not President elect to swear in and no VP elect to swear in, be it either the candidate or the incumbent, then the Speaker of the House, the next in line, would assume the role of President until the matter was resolved. But I have no reason to believe it would have gotten that far by any possible imaginable scenario. As I noted it wouldn't have been the first time members of Congress tried to get states electors decertified and replaced. That is why the Republicans want to do away with the Electoral Voting Act which is full of vague holes and pass a clear concise law that say the VP is a mere figurehead, ceremonial role and members of Congress cannot object to electors nor can the Congress decertify the slate submitted by a State. Schumer and the Dems are refusing to even discuss it.
That is what happened when Clinton lost to Bush, the Democrats were trying to convince electors to be faithless and instead of voting for Bush vote for Clinton. Sorry you don't like the history but you don't get to change it. That is the process Trump was trying to use just as the Democrats had used including against HIM. 11 times VP Biden was interrupted during Trump’s electoral vote certification 1:09 P.M. ET: Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts rose to object to the certificate from Alabama. “The electors were not lawfully certified, especially given the confirmed and illegal activities engaged by the government of Russia,” McGovern said. Biden denied McGovern on the grounds that he didn’t have a senator’s signature on his written objection. 1:14 P.M.: Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland rose to object to 10 of Florida’s 29 electoral votes. “They violated Florida’s prohibition against dual office holders,” Raskin said. Again, despite the fact that Raskin pointed out that he had his objection in writing, he failed to get a senator’s signature. 1:15 P.M.: No sooner had the Florida question been settled than its neighbor to the north was the subject of another objection, when Washington’s Rep. Pramila Jayapal objected to Georgia’s vote certificate. “It is over,” Biden told the congresswoman. 1:21 P.M.: Rep. Barbara Lee of California brought up voting machines and Russian hacking when she objected following the counting of Michigan’s votes. “People are horrified by the overwhelming evidence of Russian interference in our election,” Lee said. Once again, her objection was denied for the lack of a senator’s signature. They also turned off her microphone. 1:23 P.M.: After New York’s tally was read, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas stood up to object. “I object on the massive voter suppression that included –” Jackson Lee began. “The debate is not in order,” Biden interrupted. Again, the congresswoman lacked a senator’s signature. 1:28 P.M.: Arizona’s Rep. Raul Grijalva rose to object after North Carolina’s tally. He tried to object on violations of the Voting Rights Act, but Biden shut him down. As you may have guessed, he didn’t have the signature of a senator. Once he gave up, Jackson Lee tagged him out and tried to object to the votes herself. They cut off her microphone, too. “There is no debate. There is no debate. There is no debate,” a visibly agitated Biden said as he gaveled. 1:31 PM: Jackson Lee made another appearance minutes later after South Carolina’s certification. “There is no debate in the joint session,” Biden said, shutting her down once more. 1:36 PM: Biden must have thought, after five minutes of peace and getting through the state of West Virginia, that the House members might observe the rules. Lee wasn’t even able to make it through her objection before Biden said, “There is no debate.” They cut off her microphone again. 1:37 PM: Wisconsin’s votes had been read. With just Wyoming to go, the finish line was in reach. Jackson Lee once again tried to make an objection on the grounds of Russian interference in the election. “The objection cannot be received,” Biden said. 1:38 PM: The final state’s votes had been read. Then entered California Rep. Maxine Waters. Taking a play from her own book – she objected to the certification of George W. Bush’s 2000 election – Waters admitted that she didn’t have a senator’s signature on her objection. “I wish to ask: Is there one United States senator who will join me in this letter of objection?” Waters asked. Through House Speaker Paul Ryan’s chuckle and boos from the rest of the chamber, it was clear that there was not. 1:40 PM: The states were counted, but three protestors started yelling from the visitors’ gallery of the chamber. At least one of them was reciting the Constitution as he was taken away by security. https://www.cnn.com/2017/01/06/politics/electoral-college-vote-count-objections/index.html
US armed forces, fulfilling their oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic," would roll into DC and crush the attempted takeover. Congress would reconvene to complete the confirmation of Biden's election. Trump et al would be imprisoned pending trial. Anyone who thinks 6 January was anything like a serious coup attempt has never lived in a country where they have the real thing.
I have to agree, Coups are very dependent on the Army going along with them at all stages and with this the Army would send in their best troops against the insurrectionists right away. The Q-Anon Shaman is not going to stand up against SEALs for very long OTOH it has to be remembered that on 1/6 Trump was still technically President and therefore the Commander in Chief. If he had come back and been solidly on the Insurrectionist's side then it gets diecy. I think the cabinet would call a very quick Amendment 25 meeting but it would still be a rum go for a while. This is the main reason Trump CAN'T be permitted to run again If he does you KNOW he will try this a second time whether he wins or not. Try to find the last broadcast of Bill Maher. He gives a downright terrifying scenario of what might happen if Trump runs again. I know, I know, he's just a comedian, but remember; he was also just about the ONLY one who said 1/6 would happen as seriously, persistently and as early as he did.
What do I wish happened? Simple. I wish the media would have thrown their equipment in the garbage, so no one would ever have to listen to Jan. 6, and COVID, 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. Ahhh, to dream.
Those weren't people but syphilis microbes, and it was a hypodermic syringe not a pistol. Though he did yell quite as loudly as would be expected in live combat.
