States banning abortion are now going after anyone who travels elsewhere to get an abortion. In other words, red states think that if you live there, they own you. Yes, this isn't just about the right to life, this is about the right to control YOUR life.
So if someone lives in a red state, travels to a blue state, buys and smokes legal weed, are they subject to prosecution when they return home? That would seem to be the precedence being set here.
Although I am a Christian.... . I admit that we Christians tend to be ignorant... .and terribly under informed.......... Been there..... done that and I do have the T-shirt..... but I am trying my best to improve somewhat over the years! Our Creator allowed Adam and Eve to choose death in Eden....... so we should all admit that the Pro-Choice movement is not entirely devoid of a foundation in philosophy, spirituality and theology?! There are other ways to promote the pro-life philosophy than legislation.... but at least what is happening now is an improvement on how things were a year ago. 38 hits and 1 reply besides me and he's not even an American. Speaks volumes! Slowly it is sinking in on the RW just what they have unleashed.
Yes, my home state of New York controls my life. They can mandate that I wear a mask (Covid mask mandates), whether I can even go to work (Covid shutdowns), and whether I can own a gun or not (Gun laws). They totally own me!
Oregon takes away about 10% of my income every year. Other than than that, no the state doesn't own my life.
I think the idea is that they own her fetus, not that they own her. She is still free to move to another state, get pregnant there, and abort.
My opinion: Neither your state, nor the feds should have any say in it, at all. Any two consenting adults should be able to do anything they want in the privacy of their own home, clinic, rumble seat, operating room, etc... If I want to have my left arm removed and attached to my forehead, and I can find a surgeon who thinks he can pull it off, the state should have absolutely no say in the matter, as long as I assume all risks. That said, the striking down of RvW was the correct action. It represented overreach by the feds, and needed to go. I fully support the right of the people to elect state representatives that reflect their values. And I fully support the right of people who do not feel represented to visit or move to a state that better represents them for the services they desire, or to use the electoral process in their own state to effect change... And.. I think a lot of that change is about to be effected over this.
That can only be true if you're forced to REMAIN in a state which doesn't suit you. Since that isn't the case, your argument is a bust.
In my nation we have a more central govt, but the states still differ enough that I would never live in a couple of them. EG, we have a state which has just banned 'conversion therapy' (for homosexuality), which I'm sure you'll agree, is an outrageous overreach. They've basically declared that all therapy must be in a single direction. They're not even differentiating between legitimate psych therapy, home counselling from parents, or religious 'conversion' programs. It's ALL banned if the therapy doesn't actively support full embrace of homosexuality, or even appears to be unbiased. The point is, until this was announced I had a lot of affection for the particular state. Now it's starting to seem like a theocracy.
Don't you mean "people who are gestating other people inside of them"? (Remember, these days, if we are being "politically correct", "men" can carry a baby too)
They don't own her fetus. Does the state own your children? I hope that's not what you are advocating. This is a really bad idea. It's unconstitutional and ruins the whole concept of state sovereignty. The state can only work to hold you accountable if you broke the law in that state and then left the state to avoid prosecution. The state does not have jurisdiction outside its borders.
This question is urgent because the justices, by overturning Roe, handed states the power to allow or ban abortion, leaving the procedure available only in a patchwork of states. Now, women who live in states without legal abortion might decide to seek the procedure in a state that permits it. No state has yet enacted a law to ban this travel. But it has been attempted: In Missouri, a bill is pending that would enforce abortion restrictions through civil lawsuits if the abortion is administered outside the state. https://www.politifact.com/article/2022/jun/29/can-states-punish-women-traveling-get-abortion/ The proposed Idaho law allows the potential father, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles of a preborn child to sue an abortion provider for a minimum of $20,000 in damages within four years of the abortion. Rapists couldn't file such a lawsuit, but a rapist's relatives could. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/idaho-abortion-bill-family-members-sue-texas/ Women getting abortions in Texas after six weeks could be sued by anyone as part of a controversial law taking effect in September. While the state and officials would normally be responsible for enforcing such laws, from September it will fall to residents of Texas – and possibly beyond – to sue those who violate tougher rules on abortions. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...exas-abortion-law-women-clinics-b1881298.html The doctor in Indiana who performed the abortion on the 10-yo rape victim from Ohio, is being attacked by the DA even though she did nothing wrong or illegal.
Sure, whatever tickles your pickle — feel free to answer the question. So you feel children can consent and the state should own the uterus? Absolutely disturbing
What happens if you abuse your child? Children can not consent, so the state has a special role when they are taken across state lines. Any more than a dad could take his 12 year old daughter who grew up in America, bring her to some country in the Middle East and make her marry his 40 year old friend. (There are countries like Pakistan where the minimum age law mostly goes unenforced)
That law will likely be repealed now that Roe v Wade is behind us. The state only passed it in an attempt to circumvent the Roe v Wade ruling. Now it is no longer needed.
We've already discussed the Constitutionality and jurisdictional principles involved in another thread. Plus, normally the Progressive Left doesn't care too much about principles like that, but oh what a surprise, here they do. I believe you are correct to worry about the Constitutional and jurisdictional principles, but I think they can be adequately addressed in this situation. (It just might be more "complicated" than many people are willing to think about)
And what do you think that state will do (which I'm sure supports abortion) if you take a child from that state and send them to conversion therapy in another state? You will still be charged with abuse, of course. So these states are hypocrites. Look at the tax laws. Several Progressive states will even tax your income from other states if you live there enough days out of the year. Read up about how California authorities tried to go after Gilbert Hyatt after he moved to Nevada.
They've basically outlawed CHOICE, which is the great irony. They don't want anyone who's questioning their sexuality/gender, to have any options. It's effectively a church/state, which is another irony.
The doctor is a mandatory reporter, did the doctor report the rape of the ten year girl as required by law?
