I'm too busy raising a family, paying a mortgage, saving for my kids' education, keeping my family safe and prosperous... to worry about ancient history.

 

Those who ignore the past are condemned to repeat it.

 

Now? Not many. After I pay off my mortgage, have a healthy college fund for my kids, have the cars paid off, take a few fun vacations, and have a secure retirement account to ensure a fun future... then... and only then... I'll get back to you.

 

I'm too busy ensuring a safe, secure future to get all upset. Oh, and I spent 20 years in uniform ensuring that YOUR future is safe too.

Not at all. You seem to have no interest in the future... just the past. Go cry yourself a river.... 2035 is a LOT more important to me than 1860. My grandkids will live in 2035... no one I know lives in 1860.

The Western World is very future-focused, and yet isn't genitally mutilating its daughters, or marrying them off at age 14 to 50 year old men, or keeping 'indentured' servants, or mass-murdering people of the wrong ethnicity.

And Japan, with its actual admiration for the past, still hasn't repeated any of the bad stuff.

But yet you tell us it's a certainty? Might be time to stop taking these cheesy old quotes at face value.

 

Around 13k black people owned slaves. That may amount to 1-3% but that is no small number either.

Though I do find it odd that you dismiss it since it's such a low percentage....yet make a huge issue about the same population size for Transgendered. Seems you're the one downplaying to me.

Look, no matter how you spin it, whites had slaves, so did black people. No white person denies that the vast majority of slave owners were white. But, pretending that black people were not also slave owners is ignoring history in order to create division. Blaming only white people is causing division. Not just division, but hate. It is leading people to believe that all white people are racist, and all white people are evil. Don't deny that as anyone with Google can do a simple search and find people saying those exact things. People need....NEED to start hearing the whole truth....not propaganda used to solicit votes. Unfortunately we have people like you who just use the excuse of supposedly "downplaying" if someone dares to point out that blacks owned slaves and that it was blacks that sold blacks into slavery in the 1st place. You don't care about the truth, you just care about perpetuating division.

 

Your point? I made far more money investing than I ever made teaching school. Teacher pay is a joke, even in California.

I said help people who feel the effects of racism, not people who don't need it. Racism means a higher percentage of blacks are disadvantaged, so it follows they would be getting more help—because they're poor, not because they're black.

And you get what you pay for. I taught high school Physics in San Diego briefly. So many kids had failed math courses like algebra that the curriculum called for teaching Physics without math. Only demonstrations were allowed. It was like teaching carpentry without any tools.

 

Black people were slaves. Does what you're saying make them less of a slave?

 

In education, you may get what you pay for—if you're lucky.

My response is that its about time you admitted such. Now....if only you could do that on a consistent basis. It's a first step. But you still have room to grow.

You ignored the disaster for American workers. The median wage is less than 10% higher than it was more than forty years ago. It's no mistake tax cuts have favored rich people.
