Somali-American model Halima Aden will make history when she becomes the first ever person to wear a hijab and a 'burkini' in the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue – with the step meeting mixed reaction online.
Aden, 21, was born in a refugee camp in Kenya, living there until emigrating to the United States at age seven.
Announcing details of the shoot on Monday, Sports Illustrated said they couldn't imagine a more fitting location for the shoot than the picturesque Watamu Beach in the nation of Aden's birth.

    What do you think ?
Will the next Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue be a big sale or a sale's failure ?

People's curiosity might make them want to buy the issue.

As sanctimonious as I think Muslim women are, and as ridiculous as burkinis are, I must say, as an older woman, these burkinis are almost preferable to the scanty thong bikinis many western women wear. Nothing wrong with leaving a little to the imagination--like this person.

I love the sequined shoes. They look wonderful with those pink shorts.
From this to burkinis. What a contradiction the west is becoming.

When I first heard of this article I started to imagine a US beauty contest with a Muslim woman in full burka with only the eyes showing. And wearing the same outfit for the swimsuit and evening wear parts. Imagine a beauty contest with all Muslim women wearing a full burka. There has to be a meme somewhere that covers it.

I don't care that much she do wear that, it's her own problem.

I'm always amuzed to see how much progressive glorify islam, when in shariah country homosexuality and apostasy is sentenced to death.

I wouldn't personnaly however buy that newspaper, but I don't read those anyway.

It's ridiculous isn't it? They have all this love for Muslims while hating on Christians for being intolerant, yet Islam is extremely intolerant itself. I've worked with a couple Muslims and I've heard that even within the same sect there is discrimination where for instance Saudi Muslims look down on darker skinned Muslims.

On that point, I deeply despise and dislike Islam, but racism isn't one of the flaw of that religion. However from a cultural point of view, it's a pure arabic imperialism and people under islam tend to acculturate themselves to arabic culture. Apparently people of the arabic peninsula tned to conceive a feeling of superiority because of that.

There is a bunch of country which make homosexuality illegal, a bunch of evangelical african country in the south of africa and India. They sentence it with prison, however, the only country which punish homosexuality by death are muslim countries.

I don't blame them for that, by the way, I'm strongly against the execution of people based on their sexuality, but it's their religion, their culture and their sovereinty.

However, you can't praise LGBT rights, freedom to adhere to or to leave a religion, women-men equality and equality.

I regret we can send some progressive spend some month in Egypt, Pakistan or Somalia, so they could enligthen them with their "progress".

Pretty sure men aren't buying the swimsuit issue to imagine what they look like just standing there. Seems like it would be too much work and extra level of imagination to get to their preferred imaginative conclusion.

I am sure the Burkini does help with preventing skin cancer though. If women want to wear them, fine by me. The land whales sadly will still think they should wear as little of cloth as possible though.

    How so?
No more freakish than wearing a cross. "Look at me everyone, I honestly believe there's an invisible man who lives in the sky and I wear jewelry and adorn my car with stickers so everyone will know"

That makes no sense. People wear the cross because they want to not because men or a book tells them they have to. They can take the crosses off anytime they CHOOSE.

The responses that come to mind, at least the cleaner versions, involve the words 'floss', 'beads' and 'bondage'.....
