It is very obvious that the current gun laws in this country don't stop illegal shootings.

BTW, I believe the guy bought the guns legally. Which, in and of itself, is horrendous.

Yesterday was a dark day in Uvalde, Texas. Every time there is a school shooting where school children are shot and killed for no reason, it is a dark day. School children do not deserve to be shot at by sniper attack. Most of these shooters that shoot at school children, are pretty much sick people or possibly insane idiots, or they are possible evil through and through. This has to stop before this gets worse for us all. Remember this when you send your children to school for the day, remember this if these shootings can come to your town, remember this because we don't know what the day will bring to us and we don't know what tomorrow will bring because there is the chance if there will be a tomorrow. Remember and watch out!

 

Well though you can rely on less effective methods of self-defense. But I like the idea of just taking it out and maybe that's enough to de-escalate a situation where I don't have to put my hands on anybody.

Not sure if you're welcome but there's more ways to use a gun defensively than killing people.

If you point a pistol at someone it tends to make them stop doing whatever they're doing and run away.

What else can you use it that way what else is just the side of it enough to stop people?

No, current gun laws don't stop illegal shootings. But you are implying that "more laws" is the remedy here. That may or may not be true, but it's hardly self-evident. There was a law against carrying the gun to and into the interior of the school. Personally, I think there is something more sinister than guns afoot: a sickness infecting young males.

The government can TRY to confiscate all guns and all ammo already in American closets. Not even President Biden favors that. But how would it be done? There are already over 300 million out there, I think.

I don't want to make the perfect the enemy of the good, here. To the extent the government can constitutionally reduce the number of guns falling into the hands of nascent mass murderers, I am all for it. I do not, for example, have a problem with limiting the number of rounds a magazine can hold, or strengthening the background check process. Yes a machinist can bypass that, or make his own magazine, but this monster was probably not a machinist .

 

Well full auto isn't allowed to be made new and sold to the general public. I dunno why the bar needs to be there, and not lowered that new semi auto is also not allowed to be made new and sold to the general public. It's not as if the constitution specifically named that semi's are protected. That, and you can install very strict permit restrictions. As in have your gun stored in a safe. People should be liable when somebody "just by accident" get's hold of a gun not stored in the safe. It's not as if cops check if everybody who drives has a license as well. Almost in all cases, they ask for it when they think something has gone wrong... that's when they check it out. That's when ppl get in trouble when they don't have one.

We are definitely more violent than the French; I suspect we are crazier, too. Or there are more crazy people here as a percentage of the population here than there. Hard to measure. Orgies of murderous violence have broken out in different eras in England and in France. In Germany too, obviously. So don't think Europe is Shangrila. It's just our turn to go insane, perhaps, though the chances of getting murdered in a mass shooting are still very low, even in America.

You know......it's an AMENDMENT!! The Constitution was never considered a perfect document which is proven by the AMENDMENTS that have been added. Maybe it's time to get rid of one.

There have been 288 school shooting in the U.S. since 2009. In Mexico... 8!

And Mexico is a victim of our gun epidemic. But shootings are usually by drug cartels, or criminal gangs. Not by crazy people who can just go to a local store and by any gun they want.

 

I’m not sure what science is behind having control of your own body. I’m pretty sure that kind of thing falls between the woman and her doctor.
