You really DO 'paint with an overly-broad brush', Foxhastings.

Stories about where Americans stand on abortion vary greatly, depending on the source... and for that reason I tend to rely on reliable information from organizations like Gallup, Pew Reserch Center, a very few others, and Forbes. With that intro, you might find this story useful: Link -- https://www.forbes.com/sites/alison...y-set-to-overturn-roe-v-wade/?sh=3ac8e0f37ac1 .

In the Forbes story, dated May 3, 2022, you find this (emphasis mine):

"Broad support for abortion rights: Gallup polls show Americans’ support for abortion in all or most cases at 80% in May 2021."

If you read the entire data-rich story, you'll see that the main bloc of opposition to abortion, per se, comes from the faction that identifies as "evangelical Protestants", which contingent even you might agree does not envelop anywhere close to half the population of America that is MALE.... Perhaps equally illuminating would be the realization that not all American males are "Republicans", either.

NOW let's see the GIANT contingent of VOCAL Republicans arguing for legal abortion....and how they are shutting down their ignorant Anti-Women's right comrades !!!!! Let's see those thousands of Republicans vocally supporting the right to abortion....

Actually, you do make a good point -- where are the Republicans, male, female, "undetermined", and otherwise, that support a woman's right to CHOOSE what is done with, and inside, HER OWN BODY?!

Me? I haven't been a card-carrying Republican since summer of 2017 (too many RINO's, and far too little attention paid to things that matter). That said, I can't, in good conscience, speak for Republicans -- but as a rock-solid economic Conservative (sort of a 'lost-in-space' Libertarian...?) you may be sure that people like me fully support the concept that a woman's body and everything in it belongs to HER and NOBODY else....

Still, if you actually read that story I gave you the link to at Forbes, you know that there's a lot of us out there! Hint: you don't have to be a Looney Tunes, radical-Democrat to support a woman's right to own and control her own body!

I happen to know a lot of Republicans that oppose abortion. For the vast majority it’s based on the belief all human life is valuable. A few fit into your category but not many. Everyone is free to disagree about when human life begins etc., but I think it’s unfair to say all those who oppose abortion are politically motivated. I’ve known many who are completely uninterested in politics. I seriously doubt all abortion advocates engage in that activity for political purposes although some clearly do.

And yes, there are hypocrites as well, just like with every other issue.

Apparently, who says they have the huge surplus from which we can cure our supply problem?

    Let's see?

Canadian retailers impose limits on baby formula purchases amid shortage

TORONTO, May 18 (Reuters) - Many Canadian retailers have imposed limits on the amount of baby formula customers can buy amid a shortage following Abbott Laboratories’ February production suspension in the United States, an industry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Canada has not been as hard hit by the shortage caused by the suspension at the Abbott facility, Retail Council of Canada spokesperson Michelle Wasylyshen told Reuters.

The United States has been grappling with a widespread infant formula shortage since top U.S. maker Abbott issued a recall in February after reports of bacterial infections.

Many Canadian stores stock products from other suppliers but supply has been an issue for various reasons since mid-2021, Wasylyshen said. She could not say how many stores, facing shortages, have imposed limits or when the limits started.

She urged against panic buying, especially formulas for babies with allergies that are badly needed and in particularly short supply. “There’s enough to go around for everyone.”

The vast majority of Canada’s baby formula is imported, said Sylvain Charlebois, who studies food distribution and food policy at Dalhousie University....

Biden did not cause it government did.
Whenever just a few Big Bad Businesses dominate an industry Big Bad Government is the cause.

The laws that favor Big Bad Businesses should never have been passed. Trump, like every other President should have aggressively favored small businesses over Big Business. For instance eliminating the inventory tax for small retailers would have been a significant reform.

How does giving $28 million dollars to the Department of Health and Human Services for "salaries and expenses" suddenly make baby formula appear?

This is a prime example of throwing money at a problem and thinking that will fix it.

Fair enough. I guess you could say opposing abortion could mean many things. And involve different levels of activism. Some will try and stop other women from doing it altogether, and others will tolerate to a degree.

Some will no doubt believe that an embryos cardiovascular development is an important guage for its sentience. Others will look for more scientifically-nuanced milestones represented by developmental evolutionary markers within the triune brain. It is indeed a complex issue.

It's one of their standard "see what we have done for you!!!" boostings. Like the "we are having conversations about it", and the latest "we have been diligently working on it" as if any of that actually FIXES anything.

Complex indeed. As someone who values all human life and also centers my positions on individual rights/bodily autonomy I can see merit in both (or all) arguments.

I wish the issue hadn’t become so political. I wish the extremists polar positions were not accentuated by media and politicians and more moderate/sane voices were heard more often.
